It's nice to see 2 presenters presenting from N8 - don't get to see that on the news channel!
It's not that big a story though. Can't see why the World presenter couldn't have handled it on her own.

I think it makes logical sense having Chris on too, reason being he's been covering the story on the News channel this evening and done a blinding job - he's also spoken to people (the Red Cross Lady for one) and knows quite a few facts about whats been happening.
In the past - the World presenter (whose on from 1am) will normally join the News channel presenter - often I've seen Martine Croxhall join the evening presenter (the Michael Jackson story being one of them when that broke).
Big stories need 2 presenters as it means while one is talking and interviewing, the other can research or talk back with the gallery.
I wonder how long Chris will stay on. It's turning into a huge story this, perhaps they'll roll with it right through the night, as they should.

It was a tricky story to cover in those early hours - no electricity and no phones so nothing coming from Haiti itself, in fact the only way it was known about was through the USGS.
I don't think the beeb were particually bad, the first pictures appeared on the net and then on TV just gone 1am but apart from them it was mainly waffle from all channels who struggled as they all tried to contact the same people on the phone. It's one of those times when the modern rolling 'breaking' news format doesn't really work... they all had very little to go on.
CNN/Sky are staying with the story and BBC News at the moment seem to be giving hit and miss coverage of the event.

Sky News had interviews with people quite early on, not to mention various statements from Clinton, Obama etc. As mentioned in the Sky News thread, they managed to capture an aftershock live just after 01:30 so there was plenty to cover.

For the first couple of hours there was nothing. I'm very surprised Sky got someone in Haiti at 1:30 as at that point the only thing coming out of the country were facebook pics (and I'm not entirely sure how they were getting out as all communications there were dead!).
The channels did have statements from Obama and Clinton - hers was under a minute and his was just text.... there was a heck of a lot of filling going on.
The problem is that if one channel is rolling on a 'breaking' story then all it's rivals have to too in order to stop people turning over. It doesn't matter if they've no material to fill with

It was claimed that all mobile and landline communications were down but some people and companies had their own satelite dishes. The interview at 1:30 was with someone at a radio station.
The live pictures were via Skype. You can see the Sky News staff member at the bottom left of the screen in the second picture.

Sadly, yes.
