It's giving you Sqaure Eyes then.
That panel has always been there, in the previous set up - when the Weather used to come from that part of the studio during the 1 and 6 News previously it was extremely visible when they used to "fly" across the UK. I would have assumed they would of sorted that out at least - I mean they must of seen it when they were testing the new look set surely?
Also some of the Video screens STILL have different contrasts to each other.
The worst one has to be when the presenter on the right looks at the video wall to the right and the top left hand box (nearest the corner) has more of an orange tint - so when they show a face of a guest on the screens, it looks totally silly.

I can't help my eye being drawn to the rough edge of that dodgy panel in the wall which has been framed exactly between the two presenters.
It's really distracting. Surprised they let this get through, obviously I don't know how the screens are set up but it is beyond the realms of possibility to replace one of the panels with another ?

I do agree with you actually it does break up the grey look a bit doesn't it.
Edit: I have just emailed BBC News about that crack in that screen, and i'll see if I get a response (which I probably won't), but to make them aware that it is very visible.

That usually happens on CRT TVs which either have the contrast turned up too high,
Possibly, but I don't think so?
No, it's about a year or two old?
Well it's a Philips, not cheap?

One of the problems I'm getting with the new graphics is a distortion of the DOG when the white aston appears above. It doesn't happen when the picture behind is bright, but when the contrast between the aston and a dark picture is high, the DOG gets badly skewed. I've seen this effect before on TVs. Can anyone explain it, and is anyone else effected?
Looks kinda like this, though not quite as bad. Will try and post actual images later...

Recent Philips CRT sets don't have a particularly good reputation for EHT handling. In fact a lot of recent CRT displays don't perform as well as those made 10 or more years ago - as they were engineered down to a price, not engineered to a high quality. Decent EHT handling is difficult to deliver cheaply - and the brighter the picture, the more critical decent EHT handling is.
The EHT power circuitry is the bit of the power supply that gets stressed by large lumps of peak white. What happens is that the peak white areas of the screen require the electron gun to run at full power continuously - which can cause power regulation issues with the scanning circuits, and if the power to these varies the position of the flying spot alters and you don't get a uniform scanning characteristic.

Maybe they'll read this emali on air too.

Uh oh, I've been brainwashed, the graphics are starting to grow on me. But still. these things bug me...
-The font (YUCK Gill Sans)
-The live bug (It's not aligned properly)
-The straps (White looks AWFUL)
But other than that, I like it

A quick one ...
James Landale seems to be reporting from a new position today rather than the usual 'St Stephen's Green, any idea where this new rooftop? location is and why the change of position.
Are there roadworks outside the Lords at present?

Yeah, our last Philips use to have a nightmare displaying Sky Sports News' graphics. When they used to have the white box on the right, it would turn blotchy blue and green!

Ok so i've tried to fix up what I think are a few problems with the countdown.
http://www.factorfiles.com/BBC/2008Countdown.flv
Basically I've changed the timing so as the pips are back to where they should be (going up the octave at 10:00 and stopping at 00:00).
I've also tinkerered with the music to fix up a few bits that I think fall a little flat (just after 30:00, and the end) adding in some stuff from the outgoing News 24 countdown. I've also created an end bed for the ident, after the pips stop, to lead into the TOTH.
I've also put the data stream back in at the end and made the ident come in with it - as best as i could. I was going to completely redo it, and change the size of the numbers too (because they're way too big) but I basically couldn't be bothered. Anyway you get the idea.
Sorry about the dodgy bit of footage at the start - I just needed a slightly longer countdown so as you could here my little bit of mixing around 30:00

Two things of note
- just seen the LATEST NEWS strap, white on red box saying latest news, with red text on white for the strap
- sometimes they use a white bordered box to put interviewees in, sometimes they use the full height of the wall without a border. The latter looks a lot better!
EDIT: one more
- silly how the DOG animates off left, ticker off down. Should both animate off down. Compared to how they all animate separately up, which looks cool, this looks poor.
EDIT: and another
- E24 has replaced Entertainment 24! Why?
