First time I've seen the News Channel since they moved back into N6, and they do seem to be doing things a bit differently. Just seen sport from the desk following straight after business at the wall. Usually they'd do both from the wall, separating them with something like the headlines so they have time to swap.

I've seen that happen before now, albeit the other way round with business at the desk followed straight by the sport at the wall.

Quite frankly, I've no idea how much it's cost to do what they've done in N6, but I can see no difference whatsoever, apart from the red light at the top instead of the white.

Waste of time.

Can't wait til they move here...

How do you know the update wasn't on the technical side as well?

Why does everyone always assume that because a studio shuts for routine maintenance that there will be some kind of 'relaunch'!
It was shut to allow the barco projectors (which have been in N6 since the original launch nearly 3, maybe more, years ago) to be changed and updated.
This is all part of the routine maintenance contract with barco - it happened last christmas in TC7 and this year it happened in N6.
It also allowed the gallery to be maintained - checked - and deep cleaned!!!
It also allowed a new lighting desk to be installed (replacing the one that is so old its been failing on a regular basis!) as well as a minor re-light of the studio.
And TC7 has a spectacularly new shiny floor!

Never said I was expecting a relaunch, just that there is no improvement as a result of the work.

If it was just routine preventative maintenance, fine.

There is an improvement - the screens are matched much better - and now auto correct to keep them matched.

I don't see any improvement but that's because I don't have the technical eye. The upgrades that they have done will probably benefit technical/operational staff rather than viewers maybe?

Its been spelled out pretty thoroughly exactly what they've done.

Perhaps to stem the tide of, "waste of time/what's the point", I should mention that to run any kind of projector day and night for, broadly speaking, three years is a pretty astonishing feat.

Lamps have to be replaced regularly after a set amount of hours, but the heat they constantly pump out slowly cooks the wiring and PCB and every other component. Ultimately, even with cooling systems and fans, they have a finite life. Lots of heat in a tight space with perishable elements inside. Stack them in a giant array and you increase that heat from every direction.

The changeover was not to solve misalignment problems, as Worzel seems to have convinced himself of - but was probably planned from day one because the kit won't last forever. The fact that Barco's models now are 3 years more advanced (and have probably had feedback from the BBC throughout) is a benefit - but not the point.

I've noticed the difference and they are much better, the images are much crisper - and they all match! Smile Happy Worzel.

As long as the stand-up presentation with the main presenters keeps happening and the screens are used to their full potential then it's much better and shows a bit of imagination with presenting the news, rather than being stuck behind a desk every hour.

No, its just the buttons on the padded walls that makes it look like that.
