One thing I have noticed dramatically this Christmas is the drastic effect on the schedules of the ceasing of several of the weekend 'back half-hour' programmes, the number of repeats of the few that remain as fillers is getting embarrassing. The E24 comp, The various Our Worlds, Five Minutes, and Odd Box programmes have gone on and on.

The Weather Show has been shown I don't know how many times over the Christmas...
The ticker was on through the weather as well. Most other graphics are designed, whether intentionally or not, that they're not overlaid by the BBC News graphics. One example is the BBC One trailers - the BBC One logo isn't obscured by the strap. A notable exception is the weather, making it a bit unprofessional when you see things like this:

Was it shown at 1030 tonite as it was mentioned on the SKY EPG but when I flicked on 503 around 1045, there was something about Hogmany on.
This is not the first time a programme has been replaced on the NC(well different to what it says on the SKY Epg!). The programme about the Staffordshire Hoard was scheduled one day, but replaced with a different programme.
I know rolling news will take priority over prerecords but why replace one prerecord with another?

I've never understood why they didn't put the day and time on the top right of the screen. Would cure the problem if the graphics have their usual wobbly.

Personally I think the current layout is fine, having all the main graphics in the lower-third makes it more tidy. Look back to 1999 and you had logos in all four corners sometimes. A good idea would maybe make the weather graphics more 'News Channel friendly'?
Must admit I prefered it with the 'BBC News 24' logo at the top of the screen meself.
Mind you it was a lot better pre worrying about fitting in with BBC One bulletins.
I know what the other post meant about the simulcast bulletins having to look like a stand alone BBC One bulletin even on the News Channel but the odd times for the BBC One bulletins do not help the channel personally.
You can get engrossed in a story then it's cut short so BBC One viewers can join.

Thing is these issues (like the technical problems and TOTH sequences going wrong) seem to be something that we are being forced to live with.

I really don't understand you, Worzel. You seem like a nice enough chap but you go on and on and on about BBC News' on screen faults - and often not faults that actually detract dreadfully from the news. At the end of the day a ticker being a bit wobbly, cutting across half of the "Wednesday" on the weather graphics or a recurring glitch on a BARCO screen is
not
the end of the world.
We're hear to discuss TV presentation yes but does the constant complaining really achieve anything? Everyone knows on this site you personally feel you're "being forced to live with" it, no need to repeat yourself.
And for the record, no one is forcing you to watch BBC News. If it bothers you so much, turn off.
