Notice, by the way, how the slide before you "click to play" is quite different from the actual title, with a far clearer, outlined, "10"...
That entire image looks much more like a mock or prototype! Looks better imo.

A new look for World News America! Very Happy

I'm extremely surprised to see that so many people actually like the new set. Going back to a virtual studio is like going straight back to the 90s.

It's not a virtual studio! They walls are made from a large screens, there's nothing virtual, the image is really there!

... but it looks hideously virtual, especially the "screens". The backdrop used in the studio for the nationals last week looks so much better.

I'll give you that. I'd just about be willing to bet that the greyness of that backdrop is the first thing to give in any tweaks to the general look.

Oh, World/NC overnight simulcast is in N9. And did anyone videocap the intro there? Did they use the outgoing transitions between the headlines? I wasn't paying full attention until the last one caught my eye, but it looked like the black/red burst rather than the white/red wipe.

There's something grey I don't like about it. The lighting seems too bright and reflective against the grey. Oh and the O/B screen is hideous.

But given time perhaps I'll get used to the industrial feel.

Why can't BBC World simulcast from N6 overnight? Don't undertand why they can't just plonk Alastair Yates in N6 and World take the feed from there.

Anyone got any screen caps of BBC World's Ticker and DOG etc?

I don't like the new WNA titles Sad

The bit where it spins round looks too amateurish for a polished international news programme IMO; I can only just bear it on the regional titles Shocked

Already miss the feeling of activity you got with the old studio... I love the new music and titles (apart from the silly spinning business on WNA), graphics are a bit "meh" and I don't like the studio, it's boring. I hope it grows on me but I've never liked any of the 'fake' backgrounds on the old nationals so I'm not hopeful...I really wanted to like it all! Confused

I think BBC World is paying for it, that and because if they switched to such a radically different studio, it would be jarring for the international audience, which owing to different time zones, are guaranteed to have more viewers than the "thru the nite" service in the UK domestic.

I think as well that they can't have the Barcos on 24/7, AFAIK they need cooling down for a few hours every day.

Anyone know how long the the set rebuild in N8 is going to take? I wonder if they've started putting a sledge hammer through the old set as it were yet?

Why hasn't anyone mentioned what must be the biggest problem with the new countdown - the pips keep going even after the numbers reach 00:00

This has never happened before, and for good reason - it doesnt' make sense. It feels like they've just edited it out of sync, as the higher octave pips start on 07:00 as opposed to 10:00 as they usually do, which also made sense as it counted down the last 10 seconds. Now the numbers reach 00:00 and the pips keep going into the ident.

It's one thing to return to the WORLD circa 2003 countdown where the numbers stopped at 03 in order to allow the WORLD logo to come up, or the outgoing WORLD countdown, where the numbers and pips stopped at 00:00, but the music continued without them for a couple of bars for the logo. But the way they've done it currently just doesn't make sense.

And as the for the ident, hopefully these countdowns are indeed just stopgaps, and truly new ones will be shown soon. They ident at the end is obviously tacked on - it just fades in without any kind of transition. At least they could have used the way the old ones ended - with the red data streams filling the frame before crashing into the logo.

IMO the outgoing News 24 countdown had the best ending of any since they started, with its exciting p - p - p - p - p - p - as the streams filled the frame.

But for the perfect comparison of the past countdowns, you can't do better than my compilation Razz ***

It seems I'm in the minority that actually likes the new look.

I saw Breakfast yesterday morning, and was unimpressed by the oddly-positioned clock. At first.

I tuned into News 24 (ker- ching! ) in the afternoon, and was impressed by the News 24 graphics package. It's simple, clean and effective, and I always had a bit of a soft spot for the Lambie-Nairn 1999 look. The music is wonderful, and the titles are excellent. They don't seem nearly enough to cause an epeleptic fit, although I don't claim to be an expert on the subject. I certainly didn't feel nauseous watching them.

The studio is surprisingly good, even if the newsroom is fake. I also like the fact that the 1999 Regions theme has returned, and the new regional titles are very good (it fitted in surprisingly well on South Today ).
