Don't think anyone's mentioned that this week's Newswatch has an item on news music and an interview with David Lowe

That was interesting to see, he's spoken on BBC Radio about it too before... think it was Radio 4.

I can't see how he could say that they tried something new in the 2008 revamp though. The titles are pretty much the same as the 2007 version with a different underscore at the end and with less bass and a bit more top end.

I do think that the clips in the countdown to the TOTH could do with a bit of a refresh - they've been the same for 2 years now!

He wasn't talking about the 2008 music at that point; he was referring to the original 1999 rebrand. The "other broadcaster" to which he refers is ITV News. They relaunched their output in March 1999 and the BBC followed suit a couple of months later in the May. The point he is making is that ITV continued with an orchestral re-working of the 1995 music, whereas the BBC went in a totally new direction.

However, I agree with your argument that the 2008 music is not that original. I believe the brief was to take it back to its 1999 roots but in the end it became a simplified version of the rather busy 2007 version. It's not bad, though. Of all the versions used on the network bulletins since 1999, I'd probably rank it second after the original. I wasn't too keen on the 2003-2008 period. It almost became a caricature of itself with overemphasised drums and whooshes etc. I'm glad they took it back to basics.

Her name is Kasia Madera. She normally presents the news on the red-button or the daytime summary on BBC One. She sometimes presents overnight and during the week.

Lowe has done interviews with Janice Long on both her Radio 2 & BBC WM shows.

I've just spent half an hour channel hopping between BBC News and Sky News and I have to say that Sky News is providing the better coverage of the Cumbrian floods so far. Sky have been live on the scene this morning, speaking to local residents and authorities to get the latest information to viewers. BBC News, on the other hand, are repeating video footage from last night, with no correspondent on the scene and speaking to residents on the phone. Carrie Gracie asked one man stranded in his office "Would you like to be rescused at some point?" Rolling Eyes

Agreed, Sky seem to be way ahead in dealing with this unfolding nightmare.

George didn't even get a chance to do any handover to be BBC news presenter after the Ten O'Clock news tonight - Tim just took straight over!

I really like the banter you get with Chris Eakin with other presenters like Huw but you don't get anything with Tim Willcox!

Difficult tonight having to cram in all the Cumbria story into the scheduled slot to enable CIN to run in conjunction with the CIN Mastermind on BBC Two and on HD, perhaps the formalities were dropped intentionally to save critical seconds.
