Taking half of the ticker is probably deliberate, so that that part takes up the same amount as BBC News and the clock.

Yes, I wish they had left both channels alone. However, of the two changes, I think the BBC World one was more logical.

For me adding News to BBC World is even worse, what kind of a news channel name is that??? It's too long and silly, takes the half of their thicker too.

That's when it isn't juddering because it has the hippy shakes (as it has now!).

Interesting choice of interviewer to question Lord Tebbit on the 25th Anniversary of the Brighton Bomb - Frank Gardner himself injured in terrorism.

Further from some of the comments re: the renaming from 'News 24' to 'The News Channel'. Quite a few older Freeview boxes actually still title it BBC News 24. I've never understood dropping a very well established name for something that almost could be anyone. Like most here have said 'News 24' was a great name and said exactly what it is in as fewer words as possible. It was BBC News 24 hours a day. Renaming it BBC News Channel was always going to get shortened to 'The News Channel' which in my mind could be anyone from Sky to CNN etc.

Completely agree with you there.
The bigwigs disliked the '24' suffix because they felt it distracted from 'BBC News' (pointing to the fact Sky News isn't Sky News 24, it's just Sky News) so the original grand plan was to rename it simply as 'BBC News'. Peachy.
But of course in the real world that was never going to work - 'BBC News' could be used to refer to a number of different services including the BBC One bulletins, radio bulletins, regional news but not necessarily the 24 hour rolling news TV channel. Therefore it was essential that a 'the' be prefixed and a 'channel' be suffixed so viewers would know what presenters were banging on about when promoting the TV channel. In their enthusiasm to simplify they've actually ended up making things more complicated. If it ain't broke...
BBC News 24. The BBC News Channel. Now you tell me which is the more long-winded and distracting from the main point.

I'm a little mistified. Are the NC Directors repositioning the cameras in the NC studio for the five now? The look seemed to closely emulate the six tonight with the shot direction.

I really think they need to make more of a big deal with the 5. Perhaps the presenter should start standing like in the BBC One bulletins and perhaps stick a '5' in the globe in the titles. I think it needs to make itself stand out more. At the moment it just seems to be another hour of News 24 but with one presenter.

What? Stand up presentation on the news channel... that will never happen... it's too different from the norm.
