Arabic and Persian have studios upstairs in their respective parts of the Egton wing. I doubt they'd move downstairs.

These studios could include down the line broomcupboards for contributions for regions etc, and 60 Seconds and the daytime summaries.

Perhaps, but if a 1/6/10 studio was in place, surely the daytime summaries, 8 o'clock summar and possibly 60 seconds come from there anyway? I'm just speculating here - I don't know what's actually technically possible.

Phil Avery did the forecast from the studio this morning. After a sit down chat with the presenters, he walked over to the usual sports presentation area, where the weather graphic was waiting.

Looked a bit clunky but will be nice once they tidy it up a bit... he was standing right on the edge of the set, on camera left of the graphic where he needs to be, and because of the angle of the wall falling away from the camera, the graphic was hard to read. Nicer when the camera zoomed in, but then the ticker obscured the weather graphic on the Barco (until they removed the ticker).

Not a bad effort, will no doubt be better next time!

I doubt this will be a regular occurrence - they do it from time to time if a weather-related story is making the news, such as today regarding the revision of the Met Office's long-term forecast.

It used to work quite well in N6: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9JEP5ET3gg

Just to be picky, it's N8. I don't think it did work that well - the graphics were almost illegible.

I was quite surprised that they decided to do it from the sports area - when I saw Phil in the studio I was expecting him to forecast from the corner area like the News at One presenter does. Have to say I think it was quite a good idea to try out a different angle, and it did work fairly well.

Oh, and I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but the BBC have apparently been allowed back into Zimbabwe, where they have been banned for eight years. Jon Williams says on the Editor's blog that they ultimately hope to open a bureau (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2009/07/resuming_operations_in_zimbabw.html#comments). Remains to be seen how free they will be to report though.

Yes I've seen Laura Tobin do this before.

I've always wondered why they don't do any weather from N6 except the nationals and the News at 5. Seems a waste of the Barco's if they don't use them. Actually the weather graphics work well on the Barco's because the colours are dark you can't see the mis-match in the screens! Smile

The weather being presented from a different studio masks any changes in presenters/guests, and allows for the main graphic for the start of the next hour to be preloaded. It also makes it harder to tell the difference between pre-recorded and live bulletins - for the average viewer, anyway. It would also mean there would always have to be an operator for the graphics around, rather than at the main bulletins.
