I read that too I think, which is a huge shame.
I think someone said that National, News Channel & World News would be in the basement, whilst the old plan was to have all studios built on the newsroom floor.
Who said any of that?
There are 4 studios.
I Large glass backed studio right in the Main Newsroom.
The other 3 are in the basement, and will be built to TVC Studio specs. I flexible large TC7 Style studio and 2 others. News will also have access occasionally to the new BBC London Studio, which will be based in the Egton Wing of the new development.
As far as what programme/strand comes from which studio, it's not been decided.

You are so right Ginny. Why built that grand of a newsroom and hide it from the viewers. I hope that is not the case. They should enclose the back of the presenters and open up the front behind the cameras to the newsroom. Use lots of wide shots at the top of the hour, before and after breaks, and zoom into the studio. News channel could do the same too. That would be my ideal set up instead of been stuck in a basement URGGGGG with the ceiling falling on you. You can have large area but with the height of any basement it is just not right.
How terrible, they are gonna make that grand newsroom and hide it from us. They might as well use current basement set up they have on the News channel.
They should make newsroom sets for World and News and a closed one for the National.

Phew! For a moment I was thinking they'd ballsed up again. Presumably the one with a view of the newsroom will be for the News Channel and 1/6/10?

Presumably this new studio will bring in new programs and schedule changes to BBC WORLD News.
I hope they stop the simulcast and let BBCW do its own thing and incorporate Singapore/Asia and North &South America into that overnight slot. I always taught that part of the output is not in sync with the other hours on the channel. End all those segmented programs for the Asia region and just have news hours every other hour. North and Latin America can opt out if it is necessary.
News Channel can show documentary cause no one is watching in the UK anyway. At 5am both channels can have a general world news hour like SKY NEWS. At 6am European Morning starts for BBCW and News channel can decide for themselves. If there is a breaking news that warrants the UK attention the News Channel can opt in.
Why do the two channel simulcast after all? Is the primary reason money and resources or do the BBC have to justify the channel and License fee and in doing so show a certain amount of world news at odd hours of the night?
Even with someone like BIG AL the constant pauses and odd breaks during the overnight hours are just not professional for the BBC. look at Al J they have independent broadcast centers and they produce their own news for each regions. CNNI has been independent for a while now. I hope by that time BBCW can finally settle all these outstanding issues that inhibit the growth, flow and progress of the channel.
I heard it in one of the BH Newsletters that they were building three basement studios. I'm glad to hear that there will be a fourth one with a newsroom view. I wonder if they might give preference to BBC World News for the newsroom studio, since it has more viewers.

Well if nobody in the UK is watching that time of night, as you claim, why bother.

Good to hear there will be one newsroom set, I hope they have more. My perfect set up would be for them to have newsroom sets for both channels with different views/angels of the newsroom.
Since this will be the biggest newsroom in the world they will probably have space for a proper set, not just a desk in the corner. I'm sure they will want to top both Sky and AJ in that department.

Very surprised to see BBC TWO join the NC before midnight - twenty five minutes ago. Would have expected a filler to 1220 at least. Cutbacks I suppose.

I'd hope domestic news gets to use the Newsroom studio - I always think it looks far more impressive than a few screens showing something fake.
Will the News 24 and the 1/6/10 still share a studio though? If there's 4 studios surely that would return us to separate studios, but perhaps sharing a gallery (to reduce staffing costs)?
