I saw the sting on the video wall as well. I don't know who thought of doing that. It was stretched and looked terrible. I hope they don't do that again. Perhaps if they do, they should get the correct proportion of the image and get rid of the "Britain's most watched news channel" as it was blocked by Simon and Rachel. It promptly changed to the newsroom animation, howwever.

Shame I didn't catch World News America. I recorded it, but deleted it later on my DVD recorder. Is there any chance someone could upload it to YouTube? I don't ever recollect Katty or Matt ever handing over to the News Channel. Is this feature new?

any youtube clips of the different starting sequence at all?

No. I'll try and capture it tomorrow if it happens again. During the recent bad weather, they used a wintery scene as a backdrop, briefly. Check it out on my YouTube video: Click here

I noticed just before that when Breakfast show a wide shot of the NC studio just before 8.30 that screen was flicking through the animations, daytime newsroom, nightime newsroom and then a white screen....

I saw that as well. They were a bit last minute by the looks of things.

Start of HARDtalk from last night:

What is perhaps worth noting is while this was a repeat edition, the previous airing I saw did not include this error or VT clock-in, so I'm not sure how or why the hiccup appeared on this more recent broadcast.

Something similar occurred a few months back IIRC; wonder what is causing this to happen? Could it be a simple mistake such as forgetting to forward the tape on further?

It's a fairly simple, but basic mistake - presumably there was a false start in the recording session and this wasn't edited out of the master tape. In the gallery, if the tape was put into the machine, spun forward to the VT clock and cued up and not checked, the first VT clock isn't the one on the front of the finished programme.

Sloppy really. It's really bad practise to have a programme master with 2 VT clocks on and if there's a risk that that could happen it's bad not to preview the tape to check first (although if it's run from the gallery kinda understandable that they didn't have the time to check)

Good to see them using the duty news channel presenters for the BBC One bulletins today - does a much better job for consistency on the news channel. As i've said before it should be that BBC One opts into the news channel for the news update rather than the news channel opting in to BBC one for the update as it has been in the past.

I notice on the side barco walls (where the presenter turns and they show the interviewee on) they're not using the full size of the screens but a box showing the interviewee like they used to when the channel rebranded, super imposed over the fake news room - looked really nice actually. Smile

Edit: they seem to of only done it for one interview. Sad It looked really good - I hope they do it more!

I might be mistaken, but isn't that what happens already? Certainly for the weekend lunchtime summary. I'm fairly certain Maxine Mawhinney has presented the bulletin for the past couple of weekends at least, and Peter Sissons regularly does the early evening bulletin. Neither of them are BBC One presenters.

I may have been mistaken because I haven't seem the lunchtime summaries for a while. Would be nice to see the duty nc presenters doing the other summaries too.

Do you mean 'other summaries' as in weekday summaries or the other weekend bulletins? If it's the former, that would be impossible without disrupting the flow of the News Channel every hour on weekday mornings when most of the breaking news is coming in.

Well both the Saturday and Sunday 1200 summaries are, 9 times out of 10, presented by Maxine Mawhinney, and Peter Sissons usually does the early Saturday evening bulletin. The late Saturday bulletin is done by with someone not on the NC at the time. As for both the Sunday evening bulletins, they seem to have regular presenters - again who are not on the NC.
