Peculiarities tonight ....

BBC One News started at 5.50PM (from BBC NC Studio)

Bafta Red carpet Special ran till 6pm

Now we have World simulcast on the NC.

Wonder when NC will revert from BBC World.

Think World was taking all off the News Channel Bafta coverage. So the BBC One news had to be done separately. I presume the Australia story at the TOTH was because of it's seriousness and obviously the NC studio was in use at the time so it had to be done from the world studio

The NC took the BAFTAs until the TOTH at 18.00. BBC1's summary ran at 17.50 and ran through until 18.05. Obviously because World was also taking the BAFTAs coverage, they needed to break away for the TOTH.

So World did a joint 5 minute summary at 18.00, for the NC also...as the BBC 1 summary was still ongoing in N6. Then went back to the BAFTAs coverage.

The countdown was indeed the 'filler' version', but with a different audio bed (from headlines sequence) - this was purely used to cover over World's countdown, so that it wouldn't go out on the NC too.

Was it the Duty Presenter on World who did the 5 minutes joint summary? If so, who was it?

Take your dull rotas to the other thread, as I take my dull Barco discussion over here. Thanks xx

Haha. Peter Sissons still can't get it right. He just said "BBC News 24", then corrected himself.

I wonder if they still call it that internally...

I am sure they still call it "24". In fact, I would bet a fiver so! And I am sure they all refer to Peter Sissons as "Peter", and not "Sissons", as we appear to have been doing here on the forum for months now.

If there's anything on reading this forum that makes me feel uneasy (apart from the rota threads), it's the referral to newsreaders by their first names. I don't know where this "matey" attitude has come from, but in most walks of life, discussions of others in professional capacities (i.e. reading the news) is best done by surnames or both names.

It actually makes my skin crawl to read statements like: "Fiona did a great job there handling that item....". You don't know these people!

"Bruce did a great job there handling that item..."

That isn't much better!

Oh, please, do tell us what went wrong. Was there a problem with the screens?

Out of Worzel's 339+ posts, how many of them haven't included slagging the BBC off? Even when he's commenting on how good Sky looks he can't resist it. And besides, I thought you liked it before you seemed to realise it was the BBC?!?!

(surprise surprise)]Its brilliant I love it - at last we have a BBC News TV Channel service we can be proud of again. Very pleased BBC - much, much better!

The studio looks really nice.

So please Worzel - just stop!

Getting back to the BBC News Channel - have many of you stopped to consider that perhaps it's incredibly hard and stressful working behind the scenes on a news channel? That perhaps on days where there are multiple c*ck ups they could be understaffed or stretched? Considering its a service that (basically) goes on 24/7 it would be very unlikely for problems not to arise - especially during breaking news!

Speaking of which, why on both Sky and the BBC do they often have 'Breaking News' on their tickers sometimes even hours after they actually broke - I understand their important stories they want to show viewers even when they've moved onto other stories, but can't they find a new term than 'Breaking News' and only use that as/ when the news actually breaks?

And quickly (sorry Rolling Eyes ) going back to the screens I don't think the cracks look bad to anyone who doesn't know it's all fake - when they use the screens for none-newsroom shots (i.e. the shots of Australia or for the sports on the side wall etc.) some people (not aware of false newsroom) assume they're transparent screens layed over the newsroom windows, that add graphics when they're needed. And besides, I really don't think it looks that bad!

Why do you feel sorry for James? How do you know the problems were nothing to do with him?

Oh, and worzel, when's the last time you posted anything positive about the news channel? If you had some balance to your posts, maybe people wouldn't be so fed up of your constant moaning. You obivously watch the channel a lot, why is this if you find everything so badly done?
