When they first moved the NC into N6, there was a hug gash in one of the screens behind the presenters, which was fixed - I never found out what caused that.

Well I for one am shocked at the lack of a full inquiry - with at least three resignations. All this talk about the quality of journalism and the like - it's all in vain if they can't get the set right.

Surely it isn't that difficult to colour match/brighten the screens so they look close to matching one another? TC7 is OK so why does N6 look so bad?

if it was so easy they probably wouldn't have just spend a fortune refitting TC7 with all new self correcting screens that they'd installed in N8 and Arabic. did that not perhaps hint that its difficult?

Surely the money would have been better spent refitting the screens in N6?
N6 is usually occupied all day except for overnight broadcasts, whereas TC7 has long periods, such as Saturdays after Sportsround, making it easier to refit the screens. Plus TC7 was offline all over Christmas while N6 kept going.

Also it was only last year they spent a huge amount on N6, whereas TC7 just got a new desk. Also N6 only covers two programs - the news channel and national bulletins, where as TC7 covers a vast array of programs, meaning it would be harder to match the backgrounds to the screens for each program. The other option of trying to set all of the manual settings for each screen would be harder than in N6 because there are so many more screens.

Besides there's nothing to say that N6 won't get new screens at some point in the future!

Sooner rather than later! Smile

Also their ticker has started to judder and get the Hippy Shakes again!

To be fair you only really notice it in N6 when the background has a light colour spanning more than one screen (i.e. when interviewing someone). It's not really noticeable on the usual newsroom backdrop which is all you see most of the time. TC7 has a much bigger array of backgrounds that it has to display on a daily basis so makes more sense to update first. N6 i'm sure will follow when it's deemed necassary to update.

I remember when they first moved the NC into N6, there was a hug gash in one of the screens behind the presenters, which was fixed - I never found out what caused that, one of the screens just has a smudge in the corner of it now Wink but not too noticeable.

It would be helpful for my records if you could draw a diagram illustrating the location of the screen in question, and the attributes of the smudge itself. Please respond.

Well here's a screenshot (not brilliant, for a laugh) but if you look at the screen behind the presenter, to the right (in the top left hand corner) you can clearly see it (and no its not the backdrop, it is a scuff on the screen itself - its more visible seeing it on your TV than on the web)

What will you do when they go HD? Be horror stricken by every speck of dust that settles on the set?

My UPC EPG was expecting BBC News channel to take Hard Talk with Ben Cardin. However it appears that BBC News has decided to ad hoc for another 10 mins an then have a replay of the speech to lead up to the TOTH. BBC World News is broadcastin HardTalk.

I've only just noticed that when the left side presenter on screen turns to their right to interview someone on the videowall, they've done some digital trickery to make the far wall, where the sports presenter usually stands by, appear closer to the presenter for the purpose of the interview. Otherwise, it would look like they were looking half way across the studio. They did this when Jane Hill was interviewing some politician in the 1.30-2 slot.

Neat trick, and so well done, that I'm surprised nobody else has commented on it yet.

What they do is move the tray that the desk is on closer to the wall, the image on the back moves with the camera so you don't see the move. Laughing

The News Channel seem to be terrible at updating their EPG when they change the schedule. In days gone by the EPG unit were always updated with schedule changes - but it appears this isn't happening, or the system has failed.

World News America ran for a full hour on the News Channel last night - but if you'd set your Sky+ (or Freeview+ I suspect) PVR to record it you'd have got the second half only...

I wonder why they don't show the whole programme, presumably if they snipped the breaks it would be 45mins allowing for headlines at 00 and 30.

Also why isn't it on iPlayer. tsk.
