I do wish someone would inform Caroline Wyatt that she speaks too deep or too low - unless you turn up the sound, it is hardly possible to hear her - every damn report!
I don't struggle to understand or hear her reports - if she has a deep voice that's hardly her fault! I find Caroline to be incredibly good at what she does - really has that 'gravitas', experience and knowledge needed for defence!

Going back to presentation, can someone explain to me the reasoning behind a white-on-black box for locations (sorry I don't know the proper name for it!) - surely the black-on-white that's used on, say, BBC London News fits better with the rest of the graphics. I just watch an entirely white-based News at Six or Breakfast and think it looks so out of place, as if someone just forgot to change it from the last relaunch! I know it can (just about) fit with the NC graphics, what with the black box underneath the time, outside of the NC it just looks dreadful.

Thanks,

Sorry for double-posting, and if this is in the wrong thread, and if this has been asked/ answered before!

What is the back-up plan for if something happens to TC7? Where as prior to the relaunch when TC7 needed maintenance they moved to N6 (with the nationals moving to N8 ), I'd imagine that's pretty impractical now, what with the News Channel in N6 and N6's fixed format, plus having Newsround and Working Lunch having much more parts to their sets and Breakfast now coming from there?

edit: fixed the smiley issue

I'd speculate that it would depend on the nature of the problem with TC7, and how long before it was required. The News Channel and World could do a joint broadcast from N8 leaving N6 available for what would usually have been in TC7. The old World studio N9 has allegedly been left in a state that it can be used in an emergency, but would need a bit of technical stuff doing befor it was up and running, it's not a "hot spare".

Depending on how urgently N6 was needed to deputise for TC7, I would imagine that the News Channel would move in with World in N8 to free up N6, then once N9 was ready, one of the services would move into there.

There is a third possibility - at a stretch programmes like Newsnight could go to Millbank if there was sufficient notice.

Had a quick look at the schedule for BBC News on Christmas Day & Boxing Day and noticed i think (though i may be wrong) this is the first year you will actually get some hours with a full hour of news on these days?! Looks like 1-2pm is a full hour and 5-6pm is billed as BBC News at 5 O'Clock as any other day. This is definately a good move in my mind as people like me rely on the news channels much more at this time of year for news as it almost disappears from the main channel schedules.

Scrap that, just noticed it's because in these hours the back half is also simulcast with BBC One at some point.

Christmas Day news is always the same though - Queen makes a speech; Pope makes a speech.

It's easy news.

It's the same thing 9 Sundays out of 10. A couple of politicians are interviewed on Andrew Marr show - what they say is the news for the rest of the day and the interview is shown on all news programmes.

Still though, the events of boxing day a few years ago remind us that news networks must have the ability to step up several gears if needed, regardless of it being a traditionally predictable time for news.

Well maybe the news crews, like the rest of the working UK would like to spend just the one day of the year with their families.

Yes, of course, they work the other 364, so they have to have it off at Christmas, regardless of their choice.

Indeed. News may be predictable at this time of year but they still have to remain on guard.

I presume News Organisations probably do have staff on call as it were should they be needed over the holiday period.

Yes they do. The Bhutto assasination got me working last year.
