Does anyone know how the thing in N6 went and I'm guessing a presenter was there, so can anyone tell me who it was?

If you really want to know Presenters were Martine Croxall and Jon Sopel followed by Tim Willcox and Susanna Reid.

And who died?

Chooky Embra, perhaps. (Say it with a Scottish accent....................)

What's wrong with using N8 for Dateline London? The studio space they used to use is practically the same. Surely N8 is free and BBC World do TOTH's from the wall regularly anyway, giving them time to reset the studio like in the N24 days.

What's wrong with using TC7 for Dateline London?

It dosen't look too bad from the caps, its not the sort of show you can do from N8 in my opinion.
Why not? It used to come from N8 in the days of News 24 and the studio hasn't been altered too much.
Nothing wrong with TC7 per say but if they were moving in there, they would have done well to get a proper desk.

Is there any reason why this obit rehearsal wasn't done from TC7 rather than N6, to save moving the News Channel about?

Is it because N6 would be the main studio to break the news from, when it did happen, rather than TC7?

It would be ironic if the news broke during weekday Breakfast from TC7?

(Would it be announced then though?)

I don't know its the sort of show that looks good in N6 or TC7 IMHO.

I imagine they'd have wanted it to have been as realistic as possible, so yes, the probability of it being done from N6 is higher. That said, there certainly used to be (and I imagine that there still is) a set of guidelines which states which studio would be in charge of announcing a Royal Death.

I could not possibly comment....

For these rehearsals, do they set up OBs from outside Buck House/Clarence House/wherever the subject of the obit lived or the hospital they're supposed to have died in for live two-ways?

Must get some strange looks from passers by talking about the life of the royal in question as if they were dead!

I'm sorry to say that TBH the news channel looks far better in TC7 that N6 it's much spacier which means that to the eye it looks a lot better. I never understood why the BBC insist on shoving it's domestic news service in a studio no larger than a broom cupboard. Especially when the Beeb can fork out on one-off sets for things that are bigger.

Looks far better in TC7! Shocked Have you seen how dull the lighting comes across and washed out that Newsroom backdrop looks on those screens? Even the 6 looks rubbish in TC7 (i think). N6 is definately by far the better studio for the news channel. TC7 would be accpetable if it had better lighting but i always think it looks a bit dull in there.

Didn't they burger around with the lighting when they got that new, thinner desk in there? It looked like they'd turned half of the lights off.

Not at all. They use Corrs around TVC, Business Unit, Interactive Newsroom etc and also Radio Cams in the Car Park, or Roof.
It's all kept internal to make sure that none of the information is leaked or heard by anyone that can mis-interpret it.
All phono's are done on BBC Extensions and all feeds from N6 are pulled with the exception of the main output which has REHEARSAL emblazoned all over it and the audio is idented with a loop of 'This is a Rehearsal' so that NO-ONE can think that the news is real.
Its a big undertaking and is taken very seriously indeed.

But the lighting is much better in TC7 than N6! The lighting grid is higher for a start - I imagine you're just not used to it.

As I said TC7 is where the News Channel should be based, IF its not in a real newsroom.

No, not in there, the news channel doesn't need to be as polished IMO as the other programmes do - for News 24, N6 is fine.
