...and the BBC News Channel again breaks away to broadcast HARDtalk, so for the second time tonight, I'm having to go to Sky News and CNN International to stay up to date.
On a seperate note, Sky's graphics really are horrible - I don't see what use it is to have this 'business' ticker scrolling at this hour of the day, telling me that the £/$ exchange rate has gone down by 0.0097, I hate having graphics in all four corners of the screen, and I don't get why none of the graphics seem to line up in any discernible way.
Still, however ghastly it looks, I'm still getting more info from it than I am from BBC NC.

Although in the interest of fairness, as much as I agree, I had the opposite problem earlier on when news was emerging. BBC News was providing great coverage while Sky were either smiling over the weather or treating me to Kerry Katona's Christmas party. In fact right now Sky (CBS) are telling me about Thanksgiving traffic on American roads. Swings and roundabouts.

BBC News doesn't seem to be taking things seriously enough lately.
Early yesterday morning, the newsreaders were talking very light-heartedly about the protests in Thailand, in an 'if people tried that here we'd laugh in their faces' kind of way, as though it's some kind of joke.
Karin Giannone on now, delivering the news with just the right amount of gravitas. She's one of the best newsreaders when it comes to serious news, in my opinion.
Edit: I've switched to live streaming from NDTV.com an Indian rolling news channel in English.

Visitors to TV Centre may have seen this in use in the BBC Tours 'studio' in the basement.
It was my understanding that the News Channel have a network switch, where a selection of studios can be cut to air. It's used at 2130 so that the News Channel can be moved to N8 to allow N6 to rehearse for the 10, and as far as I know there's no technical reason why it couldn't stay there for rolling news during the ten - with the possible exception of the News Channel not having any subtitles (or N6's subs), and the World DOG.
And Lucy Hockings too. They seem to be running straight through the usual break points without leaving any opt points.

[A newish technique is to use a retroreflective screen behind the presenter and a ring of high intensity green or blue LEDs around the camera lens. The screen appears to look grey when you look at it, but it's embedded with glass beads which work like cats eyes. Shine a strong light source directly on it, it'll reflect back, so appearing green or blue in the camera. You then light the presenter traditionally.

The question is whether N6 is needed in order to put the NC on air. If it is required to output the feed from N8 then surely that would mean N6 cannot produce the Ten O'Clock News and output that on BBC One? Since all these changes, I'm not so sure but I know pre-April News 24 did not have a separate presentation gallery like BBC World does.

I'm impressed with how the BBC has helmed the Mumbai coverage today. My only wish is that the N6 background generally was much more similar in colours and feel to N8, as for me they do feel too different when switching between the two.
Also nice to see Anita McVeigh (sorry for spelling) on in the afternoon, and Stuart Flinders, both of whom are doing a good job. Plus the brilliant Lyse Duchet!
