Because the backing is changed under the 2130 - 2200 rehearsal time that the 10 gets.
It's safer to leave it in until N6 goes off air.
Likewise the backing is changed at weekends under the long weather before 2200, regardless of when the late bully is on (especially saturdays) and again left until N6 goes off air at 0100.
We've all seen (above) the effects of the barco's throwing a wobbly - which is why they are not changed under weathers regularly !!!

But the backing is changed throughout the day several times an hour. The LH side changes for business, sport and entertainment, while the back has images overlaid, sometimes right across the back wall.
Why is changing one newsroom backdrop for another any different?

They probably can't be bothered, which is sad because if they put the night backdrop up at 8pm... it would look a little better within the winter months with it getting dark earlier.

No.
The Backing remains there all the time.
All that happens is that 'windows' are dropped in over that backing. These windows are run by a system called Commander - that has a series of boxes that the Vision Mixer can drop in ontop of the backing.
The Newsroom backing is an HD Video run from a server called Jeeves, which has a series of different HD backings - Breakfast, Newsround, Marr etc etc.

OK, thanks for that info, but Jeeves can obviously play out two backdrops at the same time (we've seen that as half the wall was daytime and half night), so it should be easy to switch from one to the other?

does each panel get an indiviual feed or is it one big feed? how HD is it? If it was only 1080p wouldn't it be very blurry in real life? what sort of resolution is it all at?

Jeeves cannot play 2 backings at the same time. That effect was a result of Jeeves crashing. Which is why it's not changed a lot during the day.
