The studio doesnt look too bad in this shot. I do think they should use the screens a lot more than they do - for example the Sky News Newswall showing relevant graphics to the story, and not just on angled shots!

You can't honestly think that this is a good shot? I mean what does GLOBA CR mean??
If it was just graphical images, money, coins etc then it would look quite strong, and I have seen some good strong images used on that shot, but honestly that's just ludicrous...

The concept could work as being aesthetically pleasing is what I ment!

Quite a nice re-dressing/re-lighting of the Washington set on last night's Newsnight Special about the Presidential Debate. I wonder whether the screens behind Kirsty Wark are interchangeable lightboxes or actually plasma/back-projection screens; it was clearly different to the 'pan-american cityscape' shown on BBC World News America.

That's a great looking set, much better than News 24. Finally BBC has a decent set across the pond too.

More interesting is the question of the panels behind the big plasma - they still have the BBC News 'rings' etched on them but no newsroom background - anyone know how that's done?

Apparently Kirsty will be back in London for Newsnight tonight after doing the debate in Washington last night. Was it really necessary for her to go all that way for a 20 minute debate with some not particularly important people? I'm sure in the great scheme of things sending her there to fill an hour didn;t cost much but still...they must have been able to get something more out of it!

They're etched on the perspex itself?

I'd guess so, like they have in N8.

I do have to say it looks so much better after the refit. It's flexible but doesn't look like a shoebox.

Wouldn't it be a very, very good idea to suspend the simulcasting of Breakfast on the News Channel during times like this? Even ending Breakfast early when the market opened at 8am this morning would have sufficed.
I don't see the merit in suspending the simulcast completely because then you have an additional two and a half hours to broadcast - a cost the beeb really can't afford. Also you have to consider are the NC actually ready to broadcast at 8am? Also there isn't always going to be big economic news every day of the week just because the market's opened, but maybe Breakfast could dedicate slightly more time towards interviews and in depth analysis on the specific days there is huge news (though personally I think Breakfast already supplies a great deal of business each morning).

imnogoth, what are you talking about? Chie's thoughts are perfectly sound - Chie is saying that News 24 (just during this period of "Global Financial Crisis", when they can predict something important is to happen) they could break off half an hour earlier. News 24 can prepare half an hour earlier if they must...
So are you suggesting the economic news is definately going to break at 8am every single morning, therefore the BBC need to ensure their staff, gallery and studio are available every morning half an hour earlier? And if you read my quote what I'm mainly referring to is suspending the simulcast totally - how many economists are going to be available to give interviews at 6 or 7am before any new economic news comes about?

Surely, seeing as we have such economic problems in the beeb's budgets, it would make more sense for Breakfast to dedicate more time to the economy in the 8-8.30 half hour?

I can tell you don't watch the business news channels much, cos the economists are at their desks before the markets across Europe open at 8am UK, 9am CET. Most business news breaks either in the early hours before the markets open, between about 5am and 8am, or after the markets close for the day. The big exceptions being the central banks and government economic figures, such as unemployment and inflation.

And most business news announcements tend to be predictable in terms of timing. Not always, but mostly.

Does anyone know what type of studios we can be expecting when BBC NEWS moves to BH? I think it will be one set in the newsroom for world or the NC and a shoebox for which ever one dosent get the newsroom. I think they could also be a big studio to take the current TC7 shows.

Bad job from the BBC NC just now as it cut up the breaking financial crisis news with the "showbiz" update. We broke off from Joanna Gosling giving us the latest on the Iceland situation to see a pre-recorded interview with 4 Poofs and a Piano.

A ridiculous gear change which Joanna rightly seemed irritated about as the 9 year old showbiz "journalist" handed back to her.

Appalling.

I did think the same actually....the NC seems reluctant to ever drop E24 (and, while I'm on it, why is it still called that? We apparently lost the '24' 6 months ago...that was another poor decision.) IMO it really doesn't have a place on the channel - the 15 minute pre-recorded show at weekend is ok I suppose, but the weekday 'editions' with that awful Tasmin really aren't good.

News 24 need to have the ability to lose the ticker and replace it with a static market board - i.e. the figures don't scroll, but are live and change as the markets change.
