The whole set looks like it was made of cardboard to me, with sheets of paper glued on to it!

Are you ever happy?
I think the set is a vast improvement on the last one.

The more I look it. the awful it looks, look at it Nicholas Owen on a square pod in the middle of nowwhere, the desk design does not match with the studio either with those fake screens, which on the right totally gives the game away, its just a poor studio design really, I am all for saving costs, but surely this looks awful, this can't compare to the 1999 N6 studio which looked more realistic and the studio layout was much better.

Plus the ticker looks all wrong with that square BBC NEWS logo, it makes the BBC NEWS logo look out of position.

That capture is from the NC simulcast at the end of a national bulletin. Those watching the BBC One broadcast don't see the ticker, so the logo box and URL wouldn't look out of place to 99% of the audience. The NC audience are told they are watching a simulcast anyway, so the sign-off at the end is understandable.

As for the studio: what's the problem? It looks less isolated than the desk on ITV News, and at least the screens are real for 'down-the-line' interviews and they are not staring at a green screen! There is no 'game' being given away - nobody actually thinks there is a newsroom behind him!

I'm surprised they don't arrange to feed that endcap shot to BBC1 and play a sting on the news channel. They could even give NC1 an ISO feed of the high camera with the logo which they can cut to just before the sting plays out on the network, if N6 can't do two seperate mixes at once.

Can someone refresh my memory what facillities N6 has, compared to BBC World?

I was under the impression World has it's own pres facillity, allowing it to play out a separate programme at 930pm, while NC used the studio for half an hour, while the Ten's prepared for?

I'm assuming N6 can only do one thing at a time, preventing both playout of separate prog(Hardtalk for example!) & Ten preparation!

How does the ticker etc appear on the NC, but not on BBC1 ?

I think the desk looks more isolated on BBC News than ITV News. Yes, we all know that the ITV desk is plonked on a platform in the middle of a sea of green paint. However, the VR technology makes it look like the desk platform is attached via a walkway to the rest of the "studio". I think ITV's VR outshines the BBC's real studio - it looks a lot more impressive onscreen in my opinion. It's also more colourful so it more pleasing to look at.

I guess so, that's why we have this rather odd half hour where the News Channel changes studio.

My knowledge of this may be a bit out of date now as it's a few years since I was last at the BBC. It was always the case that BBC World had its own presentation gallery which controlled the channel as a whole and the news bits came from N9. I believe the BBC World Pres dept moved out of TVC - I think it's handled by Red Bee now. So yes, BBC World can show a recorded programme while the news studio (now N8 ) can be doing something else.

I've always been a bit more confused as far as News 24 was concerned. I know they only had one gallery (used to be N8 ). I guess that N6 delivers a clean feed of the output to BBC One Presentation while a different version (with the ticker) is sent out on the News Channel. Again, this is only a guess on my part. I'm hoping someone like noggin can come along and spell it all out clearly.

Ticker sneaking onto the BBC One bulletin just then. They're still not getting the end right - wrong camera, not going to the wide shot quick enough, hearing the presenters leave the studio, leaving the BBC News box on during the weather etc..

Don't think there can be much argument that there's certainly the perception the bulletins aren't as polished as before.
