I'm thinking that the headlines for the domestic channel could be run in advance of the 2130 weather, and then go directly into HT. Moving personnel into another studio could then be avoided completely, the second E24 could if necessary be run in the 2030 slot instead of 2130. there'd be time at 2155 for an extended weather forecast too.
One of the most problematic periods seems to be weekdays 2130 - 2200 , why not resolve this by moving "HardTalk" into that slot and transmitting rolling news in the 2330 - 0000 slot. IMHO the "Question Time Extra" thing on Thursday's could be scrubbed. Most people watching QT would stay watching BBC ONE for |"This Week" anyway.
QT Extra is a useful way of getting an Independent Production onto the BBC News Channel... (AIUI it replaced HardTalk Extra - which was also an indy - in commissioning, though not slot, terms)
I know this is really question for the world thread but does anyone know the current state of N9?
I have heard that only the newsroom set is being kept and set 2 being removed.
Could the news channel not put some walking people in its barco newsroom to make it look busy as at the moment it just looks like a space station with flashing screens and random heads staring at a computer screen non stop without getting up. Btw were the 1999 titles ran on one of the screens in the backdrop at 16.13 ish today? I swear they were just behind the presenters.
I can understand why the NC is showing live the PM's speech at the Labour Conference as it's available in rail stations, airports etc as a default channel. But why also simulcast on BBC Two and BBC Parliament. It seems like abit of overkill!

NC - it's news.
BBC 2 - not everyone has digital
Parliament - pure politics - i.e. no **** from Brillo Pad, no Daily Politics mugs, and certainly no soundbites. BBC Parliament is always my choice for PMQs and/or stuff like this.
I've got to say I think it's disgusting how little coverage the News Channel has given to the school shootings in Finland. Cast your minds back to the blanket coverage the BBC gives to this kind of incident when it happens on US soil. Regardless of whether our inept Prime Minister was due to give a speech this afternoon, this story broke this morning and is 2nd in the running order. 11 kids have been murdered for heaven's sake. I find it incredible.
Perhaps minimum coverage is best, one of the arguments rehearsed whilst it was being covered was that of copycat future attempts. The coverage has been adequate imo. It's a clear up situation now as the Gunman has died of his self inflicted injuries.
We've had all the reasonably expected material out of Finland, from the Mayor of the town involved up to the PM.
Brown's speech regardless of it's content was by far more important for Domestic audiences.

Absolutely. The Finland shooting, however tragic, does not directly affect the British people. The contents of Brown's speech will have a huge impact on all of us given the current economic climate.
I think the comparison being made was more between the coverage that this would have got if it had happened in the US. Have any BBC correspondents made it to the town yet? When Virginia Tech happened Emily Maitlis was certainly sent to the scene.
