Personally I'd prefer it if the Olympic strap said "Local time xx:xx" instead of how many days remain. At least that way I think it would be more informative.
But think how that would look on BBC World News with the local time on the live bug AND the strap, (I'm assuming the same strap is being used there as well.

Is there any need for this countdown and Olympic DOG at all? As has been said people who are going to watch the games will already know how long is left and there are still all the promotions that will be airing across the BBC output to inform us of when everything is on. I think it's unnecessary clutter.

That Olympic countdown clock, looks a lot better on the BBC News at 1. just a simple 1:23:55:44 and the Olympic rings.

Yep, IMO - the Olympic countdown clock doesn't look as bad when it's above the strap like this. On its own though (with the logo underneath it), it looks horrible.

That's better than the previous design but I still don't see why we need an on-screen countdown. Unnecessary clutter IMO.

ITV News have one as well. It's bigger than the BBC News one, with the words day, hour, minute, second underneath. It's underneath the location graphic. I don't know whether I like them or not.

Have to say enjoying what they'e doing o the NC this afternoon - got the straps and guests/pictures relating to the developing story in Georgia, as well as the Olympics Opening Ceremony on the other side, with just enough sound to add atmosphere.

They currently have a live two-way in the studio (well, N8, but...) with the Georgian President on the Russia-Georgia situation. That must be unprecedented, surely...

[When returning to N6 just there, incidentally, they referred to "our colleagues at BBC World" rather than BBC WN.]
