The news channel has a new 'countdown' graphic, which has been on during every report from Beijing - I assume we'll be seeing it all week leading up to the games.

How many times do they need to say Beijing on screen?

BBC News channel just crashed on the Olympics trailer. Screen just froze. Whilst the channel is back on, theres no ticker, DOG or clock.

EDIT: Back on now

Shame the ticker is wrong, it should be counting down to 20:08 Beijing time not 20:00 as it does.

I doubt most people will care that much: I myself consider the countdown timer to be pretty pointless.

Incidentally, I suspect the odd timing is down to the fact that the Chinese consider the number 'eight' to be very lucky. (No, that idea wasn't invented by HSBC, it is real.) I suspect that's why it's at 8:08pm on 08/08/08.

I'm surprised you've only just realised, jrothwell, you must be the last person on the planet to 'clock' that one Wink

I actually spotted it months ago, I just didn't have a reason to discuss it on this particular Web site until now.

I vote we up the dose to 4x750mg tablets per day, what do you think?

Anyway, I'm still struggling to see the point of the countdown clock. It makes me think that there are people with party poppers and sleeping bags in their living rooms, sitting with their eyes wide open gazing at the clock. You know, like something out of one of those horror-psychodrama films, but creepier.

I enjoyed that joke.

I love when this forum descends into petty bitching. Smile

Personally I'd prefer it if the Olympic strap said "Local time xx:xx" instead of how many days remain. At least that way I think it would be more informative.
