Well they fluffed up the VT on the headlines this hour... again.

Also, what the heck is wrong with the locked off corner camera that they use at the TOH (the shot that opts from the titles into the studio) when it zooms in, it seems to judder all over the place - anyone else noticed this?

Yea, it was shaking a lot at the start of the national bulletin. I thought it was the TV signal at first, but the ticker and clock were fine, but yea, the zoom was juddering in and out.

Further mistakes.

It seemed worse than ever on the 10:30 bulletin - has anyone recorded it?

It is quite bad, noticed it on the overnight simulcast a few nights ago. It only seems to happen when the camera is going down and zooming in simultaneously. Confused

This is from this morning:

Going off the subject; I've also noticed that during the interviews today, there's a little screen to left of the enlarged screen showing the same thing - you can just about make it out here...

Anyone know what this is for?

It's to cheat the eyeline.

The presenters look at the small screen rather than the big one and you get better shots of their faces.

BBC World has done a similar thing since the last relaunch.

Oh right, it makes sense now!

I've only noticed it today though on a few occasions, perhaps they were testing it out, rather than using the monitors?

If the equipment in N6 (such as that camera) is already experiencing problems only a few months after a relaunch that is rather concerning.

Didn't notice too many cock ups on the channel today! Smile

Yea...2 months in and there are already both major and minor flaws beginning to creep in. I know the last set had its issues (tractor cam for instance!), but after 4 1/2 years it still looked pretty fresh. Yes an update would have been needed, but just 8 weeks after the relaunch and everything is already looking rather tired. The backdrop is uninspiring and pretty dull for a rolling news channel. Not a day goes by without a TOTH being messed up, or the graphics not doing what they should or a microphone is down.

No graphics for the front pages in the paper review just now as well... Confused

I can only imagine what a state the studio will be in in a year's time.

I've said it before but the whole Barco screen overkill for me is just a bit tacky. The changes in May 2006 were a big mistake IMO.

And the weekend simulcasts still annoy me! Smile As does the fact that ALL bulletins and the NC have to share the same studio and have exactly the same look....except the Six of course Confused

Apologies for the rant.......

And the gashed screen behind the presenters! Plus the mis-matched contrasts and tints!

Is anyone being called to account for all these problems, especially the Gallery Staff messing up?

Just a few points

The cameras are mostly the original camera systems from before the relaunch.

The projection screens does not have a 'gash' in it. It is just at some camera angles you can notice the joins between the screen panels and the light from the projector is shining through. The projectors and screen panels are also the same from before the relaunch. They just have different images fed to them.

It is also very difficult to colour match all the screens as the camera is viewing them from different angles and the cameras moves as well. Colour matching always depending on what you feed them. Brighter backgrounds and images will look worse than darker ones. Look at the wall that Newsnight use compared to Newsround use and they are in the same studio!

The TOTH countdown failed to start at 2am. The audio was wrong, and we were treated to some odd replacements to the usual video, including, briefly, a slide stuck at 55:00 seconds.

If you are talking about that still at 55:00 then not a graphical countdown... see last 4 seconds of this countdown http://youtube.com/watch?v=kAiRvAl9uow

That's the creme de la creme of Broadcasting remember! Wink

Why does the BBC News Channel experience so many technical problems, gafs and cock ups? Sky News (albeit some of the journalistic side of things) can put together an hours worth of programming without a problem - why can't the BBC NC?
