Presentation wise it's a huge step back for what was News 24. It's the straps in particular that annoy me, given they had such a fantastic set (including the ticker) yesterday that still would have fitted in with the new look. And that set had only been in existence for what, a couple of years? They didn't need changing.

The old News 24 set was 5 years old this year, it was dated and tired as I said in my text to the channel that was read out. It's much better... come on.

I'm talking about the straps not the set.

Each to their own, but black on white with a bit of bold for the headline isn't (I think) a very sensible choice given what the competition are doing.

I'm not a great fan of the ticker, and they've done a Sky News and not modified the LIVE and LOCATION strap from the last look, albeit the Gill Sans font.

Hmm, obviously someone's been working hard at this but decided to mash in some of the old elements. I was surprised to hear the thunderclaps in the headline bed, it brought me back to the News at Six of old; the countdown sounded like a mix of all old and new in one.

The whole split world thing reminds of orange peel for some reason. As for the studio, well, the background looks swish but it's defeated by the fact that it's now been stuck into a boxy studio and been blurred too much, it takes away from the breaking news immediacy, IMO. The CSO also looks far too 'grand' to believed but then again, they did that with the national news years back with the big glass thing.

Even after 5 years, to me it still didn't feel dated or tired. I think they should have just refited that studio, maybe with some screens at the side where sport etc. comes from but keep the live newsroom feel. Then move the less of a rolling news channel BBC WORLD (NEWS) to N6.

I agree, even though they have been using it for 5 years it still looked fresh. You could see it was in the heart of the newsroom and that made News 24 special.
Now it looks like they are dumped into a dark room that has nothing to do with the rest of the BBC building. Sad

Seconded, thanks to everyone who's posted caps and video.

I have to say, I absolutely love the new look. The studio looks a little bit empty, but that's probably because I'm so used to seeing the old, cramped version! Titles are amazing, the simple straps/astons look nice and clean, and the music's had a nice refresh, too.

Swings and roundabouts really, up until recently Sky probably had the worst aston designs, now they didn't really improve them that much (IMO) but former News 24's have chuntered one heck of a distance downhill overnight.

The straps although a little weird actually work quite well, if you look very closely when they animate on there is a little animation of 2 or 3 rings that sweep across them - its easier to see on the breaking news strap though!

The main thing that annoys me about them is the fact they still get cut off at the bottom in the overscan area.

Headline bed although is slower seems to have much more impact. The music is superb overall, massive improvement.

The studio is bearable but its a shame that the background is blurred, and that damn join is visible in the main presenter shot.

On the whole it isnt bad at all - and I would have to say to people, compared to the caps I saw on here it looks far better on TV than on here Wink
