Right, deep breath... The routing to the networks is really complex. Any studio can route to any network (or presentation suite if that network has one). That studio can add its own lower thirds in a prescribed style. It can route the same lower thirds in different styles to different networks if so desired. It can also optionally route pushbacks to any (or multiple) networks. When world and the news channel combine output temporarily, say for the first ten minutes of an hour, one channel can 'slave' their lower thirds to the other. This allows the slave channel to stay in circuit to their own network ready for the split away.

Signing is switched in and out as required. They control the squeeze-back once they're switched into circuit. Signing is only seen on the news channel.

Thanks again for another great explanation. But now it raises so many more questions. Maybe I should put in a FOIA request on the manual. (Like there's any chance of them releasing it.)

I'm not sure FOIA requests can be applied by non UK residents ? ( I think you live in the US?)

Thank you for that post deejay, sorry to just call on you like that!

Incidentally up until a few years ago the Midlands had regional signed bulletins with signing in BSL provided by the BID. The 3.20pm afternoon bulletin was signed, not many regions offered this service

I seem to recall Bristol's afternoon news might have been signed too, but i also recall a signed headlines sequence at lunchtime. I cannot recall which one replaced which though! It was a good service, and one that I don't think any region offers now. You'd have thought a web only (or Facebook) signed mini bulletin could be done.

Central also used to do a weekly signed news programme on a Sunday morning.

When I was at STV we did signed headlines at the end of the 6pm SCOTLAND TODAY every evening. That was the early 80s.

BBC Wales in Cardiff also used to do a signed bulletin. I think quite a few nations and regions used to sign the main regional news after the national afternoon BBC Two bulletin (which was around 1520)?

Can I ask here what is going on with Click today. It was meant to be shown at 12:30pm but it unexpectedly got cancelled because there was an campaign address by Theresa May in Dudley for the General Election in front of members of the Tories and the media.

It looks like that it is not going to be shown again in the 3:30pm slot either. It is not in the EPG either because it appears to have been excluded from the schedule. I'm not recording it so no issues with that problem.

They are showing a BBC R1 interview with the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge instead.

I'm flicking in between that and the Snooker on BBC One at the moment. Will Click be shown tomorrow instead?
