Really am genuinely sorry to see Maxine go. Been a part of my weekends for as long as I can remember. I do worry the news channels future is getting shorter & shorter all the while, we need this vital service! Does this make Jane Hill the only surviving original presenter now?

Simon McCoy drops something again, on Maxine's last day. And his teasing Maxine was hilarious as always.

What exactly did he drop at the start there? He wasn't even holding anything!

I believe Jane is now the longest serving presenter, then Joanna Gosling the second longest having started in 1999.

Sounds about right. I still remember Jane & Joanna from their overnight days.

Any ideas when Joanna joined? I recall her at Central South for the 10th anniversary in January 1999.

August 1999. She also worked at Sky News prior to joining BBC News.

Can't believe the size of the clear out they are having on the BBC News Channel, is there going to be anyone remotely recognisable left, just a load of little known presenters that nobody outside this forum has ever heard of.

A nice small fact about Maxine, she was the first BBC news person to use the EU ref presentation, lucky her!
