Newsday could have been planned to have Babita live from Rio. But with this evacuation of the IBC could've been the reason as to why just Singapore was on today.
Greg must have been the relief presenter if both Singapore and Rio went down.
IBC Evacuated .... Some staff back in now
Media has just been evacuated from the IBC in Rio. No word yet on why other than that it was not a planned event pic.twitter.com/bCDauva5ks

It may seem redundant but it's a common practice and necessary when you have a broadcast originating outside of your own facilities. If you suddenly loose link to the outside broadcast you don't want to be caught empty handed and have to scramble to find someone to fill the time.
Indeed, the London studio always seems to be staffed whether it is needed or not - when Newsday was coming live from the US Conventions and Singapore a few weeks back it did seem very redundant to have a third presenter sitting around and doing nothing but read the headlines at :30.

Greg was always going to be doing the half heads and Newsday is jointly produced in London and Singapore, so the newsroom in London is staffed by the overnight news team anyway (who are also looking ahead to bulletins from 0200 onwards). Almost all of the gallery production of Newsday is coordinated from London too (though some DTLs and Singapore studio items are of course cut in Singapore).

Babs is near the stadium where the building they're broadcasting from is next to a busy main road in Rio.
During London 2012, non-rights holders used the nearby Westfield Stratford City shopping centre to broadcast, such as ITV News.

Incidentally, I don't think Babs is on site, she's near the stadium, with a view of it, but not actually within the Olympic park. This is to get around restrictions for BBC World as a Non-rights holder.

Al Jazeera were on top of the tower block next to Lund Point. Similar idea but looked a lot less shabby and temporary from the ground
