Ok. These are not the new graphics. They are the results of unfortunate mistakes - and are current format straps in the Reith style. The vision mixer wasn’t in Reith style and the formatting for the new straps is different. As I’ve said in the Reith thread, it’s very challenging to test and prove a whole new look in a 24/7 live suite of galleries. It’s not just a case of changing a font setting somewhere. I have spent all day working on Reith templates, importing code, exporting projects, downscaling, and designing from scratch on incompatible kit. There are many colleagues across the BBC doing the same and we’re all working very hard to make it happen. I know it seems like progress is very slow and it’s a shame that things have leaked onto air before they are ready but it’s not worth pulling it all apart before it’s actually properly on air.

Rant over.

With the exception of the masking on the live bug that needed the right profile fixing on the mixer ... it was the Reith graphics as they will appear on 15th.

The straps and the animation was right. The formatting was not. And yes, the masking was also wrong. So it’s not the whole picture. That’s all I’m saying. There’s a lot of changes coming to the studio graphics, full frame graphics and so on, plus a few new ideas elsewhere, so there’s a bit more to it than some black straps.

So Victoria Derbyshire isn't going to look like this then...?

I wouldn’t be surprised if show names/logos end up next to the BBC News logo in the transparent bar (just a guess)

Perhaps it would be an idea to wait until it actually launched before passing judgement rather than basing opinions on a few errors where templates have got muddled up therefore preventing things from working correctly.

It's like reviewing a car but using a damaged model that fell off the transporter and has had the engine removed.

Come on Pete, that’s not fair. It’s actually more like reviewing a car which has just had a slight scratch. What we’ve seen is - more or less - how the new graphics are going to be.

No, as deejay says, if the wrong content goes into the template it completely screws things up. If you copy and paste a page from an old website into a new one, but it still contains loads of formatting for the old site, the whole new site will look awful because of it. This is what is happening here. Two incompatible objects colliding and making a mess. The fact half the graphics didn't even seem to trigger on Sunday night is further evidence that what was seen then should not be used as a fair judgement.

Given a few tweaks, I think the graphics can be made to look better.

What about something like this...

(logo moves up with strap extending red background)

Well at least that better than the awful horizontal color bars they been seemingly using forever.

The logo text will be too small in a stripe like that

For Breakfast, Newsnight etc maybe - but NEWS would be similar to the new graphics I think. I'll check.

This has probably been alluded to before but the chyrons for Newswatch look similar to the new News chyrons that we've been getting glimpses of (other than the use of Reith on the latter).

Yeah fair point but the actual design of the layout will remain for the lower thirds it dosent look good and is inconsistent, the end results are going to be a dreadful mish mash, but yeah let’s pass judgement when the whole thing is in its entirety.

Sorry if I missed this already (or if it's normal) but the regional news is at lunchtime today presumably due to Wimbledon.
