Especially as the surrounding pres hasn't been changed (the BBC News box on the OTS screens, the place names and '10' on the titles plus the music which we've been told will all be updated)

I'm sure it's been said that only the BBC News 'tile' or box will change on the titles. The place names and 1/5/6/10 will all stay the same. Not heard anything about music changing.

I seem to remember an insider on here saying the titles would be re-rendered with the Reith font and new music added (some of which is available on smart speakers).

Incorrect. Network titles remain exactly the same with exception of the logo and the ten which gets a shorter version of the titles and music.

World programmes have mostly all transitioned to Reith on titles already, Breakfast gets a slight update to it’s current titles and English Regions get new titles and music.

They should update the national titles it's about time. They've now lasted even longer than the 1993-99 blue virtual titles.

And that's a problem how?

The problem is its now looking somewhat stale, especially as we've basically had the same basic look for the titles since 2008. It's past time they were updated or changed in some other way. The staleness of the look now is a problem, and whilst some of the template changes will give some freshness to the look, without a significant change to the titles, it'll feel somewhat like just rearranging the deck chairs on the cruise liner and saying they have a new look.

Interesting that the Ten has shorter titles. What’s the thinking behind that?

World “mostly” transitioned? GMT? Outside Source? HardTalk?

Here is a look at the different Reithed News styles we know of.

I have added the News Channel flipper to the Victoria Derbyshire images as that is how it was designed to fit together

BBC Scotland gets a thumbs up, and should have been what was rolled out.
Whilst the new standard lower-thirds and ticker are fine, the name shouldn't be all in uppercase.
As for Victoria Derbyshire, the less said the better. Rolling Eyes
Lastly, why are they still 4:3 safe? The Nine box where it is acts as an illusion even though the text is not far adrift from being 4:3 safe.

Just doesn't make any sense at all does it. It's like two or three versions of graphics which are related but have gone different ways which don't fit together anymore.

With the News Channel graphics the BBC News bug sits within a black strap, with the VD graphics the News Summary bug sits on top of a white strap.

If they are planning to combine them as you've mocked, then having both bugs on screen just looks awful, particularly with the gap!

Names are currently uppercase though, so I reckon it’s just that it’s taken the info from the current system and Reithed them. Apparently they’ll be title case when it’s properly launched.

The regional news early Reith outing, kept the regional logo at the bottom, and looked better IMO

It would look a lot better to me if they just put the channel bug to the left of the clock. Having the red logo above a translucent grey Chyron doesn’t look good nor does having the logo above the ticker with empty space beside it with the main Chyron above it.

Does the News at 6 have Reith?

Like everyone else just find the BBC News strip of empty space a bit odd - is there another element to go there - programme name perhaps?

On the whole though it's a step in the right direction to be making a step in any direction. And whether Reith is all caps or sentence case doesn't bother me hugely. I think most criticism is just because it's a change and change takes some getting used too, and also the Nine has teased us with something which is undeniably better.

I’m sorry but with the exception of the nine, the rest of it looks pants and that’s to put it mildly, it clearly isn’t consistent with anything.
