BBC did a perfect job of ending a conversation and getting the TOTH spot-on, can't imagine it's easy with all this going on.

A little bit extra for the NC, World opted out for ads which allowed Christian Fraser to interview two artists in Nice. This also allowed Maxine to link into the UK weather.

Very surprised to see David Eades on the News Channel when I tuned in earlier - what time did the NC and World continue producing joint coverage? From what I saw they've been very busy, going from one guest in the studio with one presenter and one guest in the studio with the other presenter - I think this meant the cameras couldn't be in place to get a shot of the guest whilst the previous guest cleared off set, which meant they were introduced and heard for a while before they were seen. As mentioned already they've been slotting in extra discussions with guests etc after World have opted out, and it's been very smooth indeed - the opt out for World at :25 was so slick I didn't even notice it, there was a line something like '...we'll keep you across this here on BBC News', a pause, and then 'with me now is bla bla...', with a good three minutes of further coverage before a break for the weather.

Do World not get a bottom of the hour headline summary before recording programming though? At 2:30 there was a standard NC-style BOTH sequence, which linked straight into Tim Peake: Spaceman.

There is normally a 1'00 news summary at the bottom when World has had a full bulletin. There hasn't been today, except where world has been doing its own half hour beforehand.

Agreed. As I tweeted earlier, the presentation, studio direction and on location work has been truly exceptionally well done today. A splendid effort by all involved. And, with Maxine and David at the helm, it all looked effortless. It's at times like this, experience truly shows.

Maxine and David have now switched to the World studio as it looks like World are bringing this hour rather than the NC...

I thought the next World pres shift starts at 6pm with Alpa Patel, so surprised to see David putting in another hour of this marathon shift.

It was this kind of NC/World merger I was hoping for. The best of both channels' talent united providing a much better product than usual.

How often is Studio C used double-headed? Whilst a lot of weekday daytime on the NC is (perhaps was) double-headed, I can't think of any stints where BBC World News is double headed (but then I don't have access to it). I ask as the main two-person shot is decidedly off centre, which is something I'd assume they would fix if they were using it all the time. The single-head shots have also had the shoulders off the other presenter straying in.

I agree that with only two stories to cover the combined service is doing very well, but outside of this a merged service really would have struggled (as evidenced by how the merger has been abandoned). Whilst both channels can cover this story as foreign news (if that makes sense), when it's something UK specific there's more of an issue striking the right balance as World will still try to be, I suppose, slightly detached and cover other stories, whereas on the NC the story will dominate the agenda. From a specific pres point I think the way they've left gaps for World to opt that are barely noticeable, and then ploughed on with extra content/links to the weather, has helped the combined service stick out a lot less also.

EDIT: And as I say that, due to it presumably being a World production now, we're back to a closing title sequence as World presents their news as 30 minute bulletins rather than rolling news, which sticks out a bit more on the NC.

Studio C is used double headed each weekday for the 5:45am paper review and Business Live. I'm sure they use a different double shot for Business Live though, it looks a lot more centred than the shot they use otherwise.

They didn't use a background with a definite centre for Business Live studio it's not as obvious.

No change to the Talking Business PQ issue.
