If there's time to show the pointless film review there's time for more than 90 seconds of actual news...

The Film Review being dropped, unless subsequently recorded, would cause quite a hole in the schedule over the weekend including tomorrow mornings Breakfast.

So record it during the six. Although I'm not really sure that they'll be any need for it to be shown at any point as its almost certain that they'll be enough news this weekend to not need half of the usual fillers.

Going a bit off-topic from current BBC News presentation I recently came across an old issue of the Radio Times which for some reason I'd tucked away on my bookshelf. It was a special issue for the 50 years of BBC TV News. As well as a special (fold out) front cover there was an accompanying special booklet within. I've uploaded a couple scans including an interview on the future (see spoiler tab - due to scan dimensions).

Oh for the days when Radio Times was 90p!

That was of course back in the day when BBC News had 10 dedicated presenters for BBC One. Now they only have about 4 (and one of them rarely appears due to Question Time).

Although that included the majoirty of the breakfast team so when they are considered the gap isn't as big. Although it could be argued that there is only 2 (George and Fiona) presenters who only appear on One now if breakfast was to be excluded.

Hope Dermot wasn't too excited when he found out he'd be on the cover of Radio Times.

How on Earth was this 15 years ago?! And it's a testament to BBC News that out of the 10 people in that photo, 4 of them are still in a high profile role on screen.

I'd quite like to see the incident with Fiona and the orange juice on Breakfast with Frost. Anyone have a clip?

I wonder if Reith will be implemented by 2054?

Have to admit its been quite nice to hear the BBC election music used at the top of the hour on the News channel today rather than the standard news theme. I especially like the little vamp they use out of the titles, showing the scoreboard and then crossing to the studio. Just goes to show full orchestral themes can still sound really good and fit well with the BBC News brand today.
Moz, SuperSajuuk and Custard56 gave kudos
