What's that device Rico Hizon is holding? It sounded like he kept clicking or tapping it at about 01:23.

Manually controlled autocue. Its a thing in some studios, such as during certain sports bulletins in Salford. Presumably meant to reduce technical faults with the autocue not working when it runs automatically by having it be manually operated

Aren't all autocues manually operated? The only difference is that some are done by the presenter and some by an operator?

In the context here, manually would be implying the presenter doing it themselves. If it was by someone outside the studio (ie by computer or by a human in the gallery), I would be more inclined to call that an automatic autocue as the presenter isn't in control of it. This is just my own opinion ofc, but that's a laymans way of differentiating for me Razz

Usually at the weekend the problem with the ticker is nonsensical headlines. That's not the case at the moment, but there is apparently only the one headline going round and round and round...

Mediaboy posted an instastory about studio work being done. It’s picture of himself standing in a trap door up to his waist with the Furio tracks next to him. I had no idea the studios had that much depth to the flooring.

I thought they may be elevated a foot max with the Furio track laying on the proper floor as when presenters walk you can hear its hollow.

Edit : I wasn’t going to post the photo as it was on Instagram. However it appears his profile is public and uses the same handle as he uses on Twitter. So I figure it’s okay.

Maybe someone with a better idea of the studios explain to me what the door is for.

Huw Edwards presenting a weekend news bulletin today, I don't think he normally does that unless it's a major news story, and normally he's on location, not the studio?

I was also surprised by his appearance- i know bank holidays bring up unusual presenting shifts but still.... at least he is t wearing a black tie or this place would go into meltdown

Just seen a promo pop up for Afternoon Live (though it may well have been on air for quite a while as I don't tune into BBC News frequently) and can't say it does the show justice. The choice of music and use of jokey, giggling clips make it seem more like a comedy programme than a news bulletin and doesn't really highlight the fact that Simon McCoy is a bloody good journalist.

That space looks terrible on screen! Wouldn't Studio V (The One Show studio) have been available? Or in these days of One BBC is it cheaper to do what they did?
