You say that, but..

This morning usual 5.57am BBC One junction from the news channel/World simulcast into Breakfast usually with BBC One/Two trailers and (I understand) run from Studio E's gallery was missing.

We had a trio of BBC News Channel trailers, a 60" BBC News Countdown then straight into Breakfast. Just like on Saturday/Sundays - minus BBC One continuity.

So, sounds like a bit of soldering, and general fluff removal in E was going on this morning..

The NC stayed with Breakfast until 9am this morning for some reason, complete with BBC London simulcast at 8.27.

Maybe there was technical work required in Studio E which necessitated a longer time, and so BBC Breakfast continued to air on the channel until 9.00am?

There are no technical reasons as to why Breakfast would ever have to continue on the News Channel Monday to Friday unless there was a total failure at NBH as the scheduled programme is Business Live which is simulcast with World from C (and which went out as normal on world this morning). As already said it was due to the flypast which while understandable I think was the wrong decision considering Breakfast was going out on BBC1 in any case.

The whole of Breakfast today had been dedicated to it so cutting off before airing it would have been ridiculous. For all its faults this is an event Breakfast made happen.

Interesting. Have just got home and watching my recording from BBC One Wales this morning, and they had full continuity, including BBC One and 2 trails.

Today was one of those days clearly where BBC One and the NC should have gone their own ways from 6am onwards with the latter simulcasting World.

While I don't begrudge anyone wanting to see a flypast, the content from Business Live would have been more suitable for those wanting rolling news instead.

I must say, I'm no great fan of Breakfast, and I'm not usually affected by events, but I did find the whole story and resulting flypast incredibly moving.

Just like they will do on Monday with the once a year Oscar's coverage that is a complete over reaction. There is no harm at all in dedicating a bit of time once in a while to something a bit happier than the usual news stories, even at the expense of so called "proper news". The BBC and the news channel got it spot on this morning.

I suppose it comes down to this, would a stand-alone domestic NC bulletin have covered the flypast? Probably, which would have meant if they covered it with Biz Live still on the schedule, they'd crash out of the World feed into it, so would have been cleaner to have left Breakfast on this morning.

Personally I thought it was unnecessary duplication with most viewers watching on BBC One, but was the best decision with what they had to stick with Breakfast.

Well, I’ve thought for the last 20 years it would be more useful for the News Channel to simulcast BBC World between 6 and 8:30am, should’nt matter as it’s constantly asserted in here that no one consumes the main BBC 1 news programmes on the NC ? Cool

That's largely true. Breakfast gets ~1.5m on BBC One, and 20-30,000 audience on the BBC News Channel typically.

(Anything below 50,000 in BARB ratings used not to be deemed hugely accurate)

Those watching Breakfast on the NC are probably those in places that have a TV tuned to the NC all day.
