Perhaps using graphics which use boxes which are *meant to* randomly overlap slightly (a bit like the overlapping cards of the new itv graphics) would make this easier. If they’re not meant to align perfectly it won’t matter when they don’t.
The BBC has less scope than say Sky News to be "quirky" with its on-screen presentation, but there are ways to add "breathing" space around elements, and still present graphics on screen.
Doesn't have to be quirky, just something like this (very quickly mocked!)...
So this proves that the BBC know that the fiasco last time wasn’t great.
Where is the thread from last time, I recall some here fiercely defended the BBC’s position.
The (or a) difference was this time, BBC 2 was schedule was running early enough, to allow an overlap. That wasn't possible last time. Maybe, just maybe, this time the Beeb planned the timings on 1 and 2 to enable that contigency.
There’s always the issue of the nations/regions’ news - which cannot be on BBC Two. Delaying the Ten also delays the nations/regions and the late slot is often their best rated. There’s always feedback that when matches go to extra time and penalties, the nations/regions slots don’t get off air til almost 2330. Apart from the fact that’s a negative impact on viewers who want the regional news, the staff are often technically only on shift til 2245 or 2300.
Very interesting that this match was shunted. Can’t remember it happening before. I wonder if it has anything to do with finding a strategy for the future when Scotland is no longer able to opt on Two? In the recent past, especially during Wimbledon, there have been scenarios where the Six has been on BBC Two, with the
nations
opting, and the
English regions
waiting for a slot on BBC One when the tennis has finished. AIUI, with the launch of the BBC Scotland channel, they’re ceasing the ability to have a separate BBC Two Scotland.
Don’t get what’s so hard to understand about the idea that moving sport/news is on a case-by-case basis.
I think the fact the BBC didn’t use their main pundit, presenter or commentator last night tells you where the match ranked in the BBC’s priority list
Don’t get what’s so hard to understand about the idea that moving sport/news is on a case-by-case basis.
Well, indeed. And the most obvious point is that, as an 8.05 kick-off, it could move over at the very start of extra time rather than, as last time, halfway through it.
