At the end of the day, BBC One takes priority and they won’t compromise their schedule to accommodate a channel that seems to be less of a priority at the BBC as the weeks go on. BBC One should be free to schedule their bulletins at whatever time they like.

But as said, they can accommodate them better on the news channel, it shouldn’t be too hard to run the previous hour a bit longer if BBC One starts at five past. Even if they don’t have any extra reports at the weekend to slot in, they could easily run a few more trails, and a longer weather forecast.

The ITV News Channel used to bounce all over from studio to studio. I don’t think they used to run a full TOTH if ITV1 had a bulletin at five past though.

Yes, Paul Royall who is Editor of the Six and Ten is also in charge of the late Sunday news. Just out of interest, who is chief in charge of the other weekend bulletins?

He is in charge of the Saturday late news as well

The alternative to decamping the News Channel presenter, is to simply have the national presenter in the studio from the TOTH and just have them quickly read out the headlines, before going to the national bulletin.

There was a time recently, don't remember when, in which News at Ten on a weekday was offset to 10.30pm, so rather than getting the NC presenter back into the studio to do a 30 min bulletin, they just had Huw Edwards do a "news at ten" for the NC only, then repeated it for "news at ten thirty", which worked very well in those cases.

Having the weekend presenter stay in the studio for 5-10 mins, just to be decamped for BBC One, is definitely pointless though.

Top Quality discussion on Victoria Derbyshire this morning... should it be illegal to send nude pictures by phone Embarassed It allowed Victoria to say 'dick pictures' before the watershed and featured a right character who liked to send pictures of his 'genitalia' to women.

I suppose it meant that they stopped banging on about Brexit for a while, but hints of Jeremy Kyle and sensationalism creeping in me think Very Happy

No doubt the topic of females sending nude pictures to males was, conveniently, not mentioned!

It really has plumbed the depths now hasn't it! And like i said i can see it gone by the next round of budget cuts as cutting a program's duration in half is never a good sign.

Sounds like the sort of item they’d do on “This Morning”

Seems like although the cut to an hour was well timed for Victoria given recent news developments in a way it's only served to highlight the issues people have with the programme too - in many ways shortening the programme gives them licence to concentrate even more on a features type agenda with them not dominating the news channel for two hours.

The back 15 minutes of Derbyshire on Tuesday apart from the 'dick pics' feature also had yet another inane Brexit Dates VT "to accommodate viewers who don't think BBC News is for them" by having a former BB housemate on a 'date' with Professor Robert Winston.

Is this what this feature is going to be every day, a former reality star for "da kidz" with someone respected in their field discussing Brexit in a cafe?

You think kids is Victoria Derbyshire’s audience?

I honestly don’t think people understand why her show exists. It’s not a straight news programme - the BBC have a duty to inform and educate a variety of different audiences. Each radio station pitches their news bulletins differently depending on their audience, why is it such a bad thing for a tv show to do the same?

It should only be on bbc two though and let the news channel roll with rolling news, you don’t see this sort of output on BBC World News, they get serious GMT instead.

Radio at least has two stations which can accommodate the varied target audiences. 5 Live was perfect for Derbyshire's style of misery and puff features. Yet there is only one PSB news channel which thanks to the tick box mentality of the BBC has scheduled this programme against Sky News who for some reason are super serving a tiny audience of politicos at the same time, so there is no rolling news at all domestically.

I've already mentioned that this format would be perfectly fine at weekends where domestic news is slow and the BBC could accommodate "audiences who think that BBC News isn't for them" at a time when breaking news is likely to be slower.
