Just a thought but it does now mean that all content on the news channel will be branded with the exception of 8 and 11pm. So, we have: Business Live; BBC News @ 9; Victoria Derbyshire; Newsroom Live; News @ 1; Afternoon Live; News @ 5; News @ 6; Sportday; Beyond 100 Days; Outside Source; and News @10 on a weekday basis.

Almost seems a shame they don't get their own titles as well...

I do wonder what has prompted this change?

I suspect the 11pm hour will be branded 'Newsnight' before long...

I'm just waiting for trails for the 'Now O'Clock News', although obviously now rephrased as BBC News @ Now O'Clock, and we can go full circle.

FWIW the website schedule also has 1330-1400 and 1850-1900 branded as just 'BBC News'.

They’re finally cottoning on that a rolling news channel should provide NEWS at such a pivotal part of the day.

If Newsnight were ever to become a BBC Two & BBC News Channel simulcast starting at 11pm, at least that would mean it would *have* to actually start at its billed time of 23:00 exactly!

Newsnight seems to have *always* (or at least for as long as I care to remember) started a couple of minutes or so later than the billed time of 10:30pm.

BBC Two seemingly deliberately makes timings slip as the evening progresses (e.g. by showing too many promos between each programme, or whatever), to make Newsnight start late.

The late start of Newsnight was historically based on waiting for the 10 o'clock News to finish, so that viewers could switch over without missing much.

Back in the days when the regions handed back to the 10 o'clock News when they finished, the network presenter would then say something along the lines of "Newsnight's getting underway over on BBC2" before the programme ended.

The 10 o'clock News now finishes later, but viewers can still switch over to watch the beginning of Newsnight if they don't want to watch the regional news.
