While I didn’t see the BBC News Channel yesterday from the accounts the coverage does sound well below the standard you’d expect - going to Our World and The Film Review and US press conferences rather than mentioning the Leicester helicopter crash story is ridiculous especially with Martine already on shift.

Not the first BBC have struggled withnews at weekends though - I remember David Davis resigned as Brexit Secretary around midnight on a Sunday so rather than keeping domestic coverage on air for it we instead got a World Simulcast mostly on the thai floods - the bigger international news story but not necessarily for UKviewers

The evening shift however involves a significant amount of continuous time, whatever day of the week it is, where the presenter is off air. Given it is a continuous period it wouldn't surprise me if that is an unpaid break and probably not just for the presenter but the team producing the output so they may well not even be in the building during that time.

BT were live from the stadium doing their post match debate (and showed the helicopter taking off) at the time, unless I've missed something.

Oh, I thought the post match chit chat show is normally done and dusted by 20:00 hrs, the derig starts in earnest at 20:01 !

Normally the match coverage is off air at 1955, then there's a crew change in the pres truck, and Premier League Tonight is on air from 2000-2055.

Have they always done that ? OBX is the match truck, so that gets derigged (except for any cameras required to be used for OB12), while the PLT show comes from OB12 ?

I think so. There was a similar arrangement with the pres truck shuffle when they had the lunchtime kick-offs and Fletch & Sav.

Clive Myrie presenting Afternoon Live today, but given it's his first time on the show as presenter, I guess he wasn't sure of positioning for things, since he was standing at the sidewalk rather than near the desk, thus the opening showed the normal opening camera shot with nobody there. It did change over to where he was standing though.

On a different note, anyone notice that Hardtalk and Week in Parliament were presented from the same Millbank studio over the weekend?

Has he never watched the show before?

No idea, maybe? Not really sure how to answer that question tbh. Confused

He hasn't been around on the channel for quite a while though, only popping up for weekend shifts and special reports abroad. Confused

Do the News Channel normally just take the Daily Politics/Politics Live for the Budget? Had assumed they'd be doing their own thing.

It's usually a special, non-branded Budget simulcast with Huw Edwards on BBC News and BBC Two.

It's nice to see the new Politics Live graphics on screen with the news channel ticker and DOG - and everything lining up properly!
nigel, SuperSajuuk and bkman1990 gave kudos

Having not seen the politics live graphics they looked very nice indeed and didn’t look out of place on the news channel.
