I think it is better to have a variety of different styles of presentation of the News.
If that is Victoria Derbyshire's more social media and soft interview - to handling of delicate human focused topics.
Politics Live and its round-table conversational approach to political coverage.
Afternoon Live more personable presentation and local focus.
The bulletins, local news, and business, sport, international strands.
Newsnight's in depth focus.
The BBC World News programmes.

It does feel like they are just throwing out ideas, but thats how it works. You try something, re-jig or drop it if it doesn't work. Most people don't sit and watch News coverage all the time, but they may pick the type of presentation they prefer, and watch that. The main thing is to cater to different tastes, and reach more audiences (even if it doesn't keep them engaged all day)

Which some of us on here have been saying for more years than I can remember.

Yet look at what the BBC are doing with the local radio evening slot.

Putting on off-target programming which targets everyone and nobody to tick a box, while the rest of the station targets the over 50s in Tony Hall's attempt to target everyone, while what should be happening is a gradual broad radio station that provides, news, information and entertainment that doesn't involve playing Genesis and Simply Red between lazy padded features for the rest of the day.

Agree with all of that. I'm available to sort it out if Lord Hall ever wants a coffee. Laughing

The title music is awful, it’s not even a patch on the old one.

On that subject, why on Earth do they insist on restarting the headline bed everytime a new headline comes up? Only a minor bugbear in the grand scheme of things, but it's really noticeable if you're listening through headphones. Mad

Here's the video of the new titles for those who like moving pictures.

Preferred the original to be honest, and not a patch on Afternoon Live.

A bit of a pointless refresh of Newsroom Live in my opinion. The current music and branding is stale, no amount of theme remixes and variations on the globe are going to change that. Also, does the program have any link to the newsroom? If not, why call it Newsroom Live? If they need to simply brand the slot so they don’t just put out BBC News on BBC Two, I’m sure they could think of a better name. The AR also looks pretty poor, it’s used far more effectively on The Papers.

Great example of if it's not broken don't fix it. New music is bland and has nothing on the dramatic, great old one. No wide shot of the studio and sudden shot of the catwalk makes it look abrupt.

I think the 'health/celebrity puff' is as boring as hell, personally. But then it's not targetted at me - not because I am male, but because I'm not into 'health/celebrity puff' stories.

'Health/celebrity puff' content is generally targetted at those who enjoy 'health/celebrity puff' content.

I much prefer the rolling news format, but I am not arrogant enough to insist that the entire schedule is formulated to suit my own sensibilities.

There are 24 hours in a day, that's plenty enough time to accommodate news, analysis, interviews, weather, business with time left over to accommodate those who are looking for health, celebrity, sports, whatever. So long as the 'health/celebrity puff' can be taken off-air when something important happens.

Agreed though on Politics Live though. It's a well put together programme.

Who is this celebrity puff you keep referring to?

Oh joy, yet another dull stringsy arrangement of the BBC News theme music.

While I don’t particularly care for the AR hoops, it would look somewhat better if they made the title one large enough to cover the real life hoop. For a minute given the little motion of the camera I thought it was the “faux AR” that some places tout, where in reality it’s just a graphic over a locked off shot (like the cube during Talking Business with Aaron).

I’m actually surprised it’s taken the BBC this long to build and use AR given that the Furios from the get go are able to handle tracking and they had the VR heads from the start.
