Not liking the AR Logo around the Newsroom ceiling rings. The extrusion makes the "BBC" in particular, look cheap. The resolution of the panels is obviously not good enough to display the logo or date text, hence the overlay, but lose the extrusion.

The Titles feel like an awkward remix of elements, especially the text element being made so prominent in the mix.

I think when the BBC Reith makeover takes place with BBC News - a new brand needs to be brought in, as well as the Newsroom given a refresh to make it feel cleaner. Whatever the new branding is, it needs to be flexible for these kinds of branded strands. Newsroom Live, Afternoon Live, Whatever Live.

As well as the News Channel strands, there are the World News programmes. The Foreign News titles, The Foreign Channel branding, and then the World Service branding. These all came about between 2008 and through the 2013 refresh - but still were cobbled together under the BBC News branding.

Any new brand, needs to be designed to include these and a brand system that can extend beyond them in the future.

“Tick box nonsense”?

Female skewed magazine features and celebrity interviews which aren't generally part of the rolling news format. Derbyshire and Burley have them to diversify their audiences.

Because having a diverse audience that includes those pesky females is bad. Apparently.

The notion that you need celebrity interviews and extended lifestyle features on a public-service news channel in order to appeal to a female audience (rather than just smart, well-presented coverage of the day's news) strikes me as a bit dismissive of 21st century women.

I REALLY don’t like the new newsroom live music. I am a huge fan of David Lowe’s work all over the news channel however this sounds really cheap and tacky.

It’s almost like David got a ‘String Quartet loop samples vol.3’ for Christmas and has used them in the last remixes he’s done for Afternoon live, breakfast and now newsroom live. Just very random, over-the-top strings that don’t bring anything to the theme music apart from ‘cheese’.

Have to agree... It’s a shame, I can’t help feel that it’s now a cheaper Afternoon Live , I notice as well that like AL, they had a board with the hashtag #BBCNewsroomLive and “Text 61124” at the BOTH. And the opening line was changed to “You’re watching BBC Newsroom Live, it’s X and these are the main stories...” - just now there was a very AL-type segment looking at ‘images of the day’ including the front page of The Sun and Melania Trump’s hat. Oh dear, oh dear... I should have predicted this when one of last week’s 11am headlines was “Ball Bags Breakfast” 😒

I think it is better to have a variety of different styles of presentation of the News.
If that is Victoria Derbyshire's more social media and soft interview - to handling of delicate human focused topics.
Politics Live and its round-table conversational approach to political coverage.
Afternoon Live more personable presentation and local focus.
The bulletins, local news, and business, sport, international strands.
Newsnight's in depth focus.
The BBC World News programmes.

It does feel like they are just throwing out ideas, but thats how it works. You try something, re-jig or drop it if it doesn't work. Most people don't sit and watch News coverage all the time, but they may pick the type of presentation they prefer, and watch that. The main thing is to cater to different tastes, and reach more audiences (even if it doesn't keep them engaged all day)

Overall, the Newsroom Live improvements are good (the music is a 50/50 for me), but I absolutely abhor the AR implementation. That just looks like it was thrown in for the sake of "omg we have this excellent AR feature, let's put into every program we have just for the sake of proving it works!", rather than putting it into a place where it makes sense and enhances the program in some way.

If they're gonna keep the AR, they should make better use of it, such as presenting from the newsroom and using AR to incorporate elements of the presentation, like how they present from location on OS at times and use on-screen graphics to keep the OS theme during the broadcast.

Alternatively, they could do it how they did in Afternoon Live with the Twitter carousel (which has conveniently vanished Rolling Eyes), but I don't see the point of the current AR implementation whatsoever.

Exactly. There are women who find all that health/celebrity puff as patronising as some men when all they want is mainstream news. It's 20th Century thinking.

There's nothing wrong with that format on This Morning/Loose Women where they cater to an audience who enjoy a women's weekly magazine format, yet news should be news where viewers shouldn't have to tolerate a 10 minute interview on a health issue or what's happening on Love Island to find out what is happening in Indonesia or Brexit.

Not all puff is bad though, Afternoon Live's interviews have been fun and on-target.

The best way of showcasing women incidentally has been on Politics Live where women are discussing politics, not stereotypical women's issues. Now that is inclusive.

I think the 'health/celebrity puff' is as boring as hell, personally. But then it's not targetted at me - not because I am male, but because I'm not into 'health/celebrity puff' stories.

'Health/celebrity puff' content is generally targetted at those who enjoy 'health/celebrity puff' content.

I much prefer the rolling news format, but I am not arrogant enough to insist that the entire schedule is formulated to suit my own sensibilities.

There are 24 hours in a day, that's plenty enough time to accommodate news, analysis, interviews, weather, business with time left over to accommodate those who are looking for health, celebrity, sports, whatever. So long as the 'health/celebrity puff' can be taken off-air when something important happens.

Agreed though on Politics Live though. It's a well put together programme.

There's not to say that rolling news formats shouldn't feature health and celebrity stories, but not as a long form tick-box operation to fulfil some W1A quota to say that we targeted a particular demographic to meet a remit. News is news, which I think rolling news channels have forgotten somewhere along the line when attempting to innovate.

It seems to me quite amusing that the only people suggesting a link between the lifestyle/puff stuff and women are those who are suggesting that doing so is patronising and stereotypical.

The BBC certainly haven’t come out with that link.

Not seen the new newsroom live, not sure about the music, i need to put it through the amp. is that the only time they use AI at the beginning?

They should have tried something other than BBC News red with AI I think, but the titles look nice and there’s some consistency with Afternoon Live, I don’t like how it goes to the presenter at the catwalk though I prefer the usual way they do this.

mdta is right about the bbc logo, that dosent look good.
