I actually loved watching the new promo trailer for Afternoon Live on the NC. It was brilliant. I think Simon McCoy is really the big winner out doing a great news programme of this scale like this one as it is really going from strength to strength. Of course there are important stories for us to hear in this great programme.
I agree, the format works brilliantly and Simon's comic timing and delivery suits it perfectly. It has the right balance of serious news and light heartedness. It's probably the best the afternoon slot has ever been in the channel's 21 year history. I'm also really impressed with Martine Croxall as his stand in on Fridays. She would make a perfect replacement if Simon ever decided to call it a day (which hopefully won't be for a while yet).
Bit of a mess up at the end of the headlines just now. A pre-rec Film Review teaser was shown, presumably in error, with Martine. Cut to Martine in a completely different studio and wearing completely different clothes.
Not sure if anyone's seen it, but while Hacker was in the studio for his interview he took the opportunity to sit in Simon's chair and record a "Breaking News" promo for his new show.

This is the trailer for it. It has been up there a few times on CBBC.
BBC News online live feed of the Kavanaugh hearing fell over just then, cutting to a shot of a newsroom with a US timezone clock and British accents chattering in the background while someone watched CNN on a monitor.
