A "Feeling The Heat" special, obviously prepared for both domestic and international audiences, with Christian Fraser on BBC News now.

The Beeb (and Sky too to be fair) are really running the 'the weather is hot' story into the ground. The tone of the reports was rather hysterical.

Must be the heat getting to them.

5 News did another of their pointless weather specials at 9pm as well.

Rather a random question, but I thought I'd ask it here anyway.

I've just been watching a live press briefing on the NC from Austria involving the Austrian Chancellor and Theresa May.

The clicking of the press cameras was quite annoying. I don't have a digital camera, as I use my phone if I want to take pictures, and it makes no sound whatsoever, as I turned off that rather annoying effect. Mad

Do digital cameras used by the press actually have to make a noise from a mechanical requirement, or is it just for effect and to be nostalgic about the sound of the shutter in the old film cameras of a bygone era?

No they probably don't have to make that noise, but to photographers that shutter sound is reassuring. It tells you without visually checking that you took a photograph, and most photographers tend to take lots of photographs in the moment, only actually checking the quality of them later on after the event.

Yes, D-SLRs make a sound. They have mechanical components, the sound mainly coming from the mirror folding up to take the snap. It’s not for ‘effect’ or because it’s reassuring, cute an idea as that is.

It's not a cute idea, or at least not mine, it's something that some photographers I've known have said to me.

A real SLR, digital or otherwise, has a mirror that moves when you take the shot, the R bit of reflex. There is some genuine sound with this.

More recent models are mirrorless and technically not SLRs. These have no moving parts.

The ticker seems to have broken on the News Channel since 11.45pm. Unless this was intentionally done, The only thing it’s showing is the story about the Lunar Eclipse. I know it’s interesting, but there’s more stories than just that, such as sport, exchange rates and business news.

That eclipse wasn't even the top story, it was second in the running order behind something involving Trump and Russia. Very odd.

The ticker on Newsroom Live appears to be showing the BBC World News feed (due to references of bbc.com), which is very unusual during a weekday. Either the ticker broke again, or the ticker management person isn't actually there to set up the UK based one.
