The biggest ever mass shooting in America?
The biggest terrorist event since 9/11?
The biggest attack on the LGBT community since the Holocaust?

Not convinced the BBC made the right decision at all.

But all those superlatives weren't established until later in the day. Until mid afternoon it was just another shooting in the US... depressing as that sounds.

With Neil NG on this.

BBC should have taken the appropriate action the minute the death toll jumped from 20 to 50 and that was before noon Eastern time. I was channel hopping. It was very disappointing coverage across both World News and News Channel. It's becoming the last place I go to for Breaking News these days, it's very hit and miss.
BBCWalesToday and Willow7 gave kudos

Yes it wasn't until the 15:15 (BST) press conference that the severity of the incident was really that significant. Unfortunately the BBC chose to ignore it for the best part of 45 minutes.

"Just another mass shooting in the US" as it was put above is justification itself to continue with rolling news, even if the death toll was "only" 20. I know they are increasingly frequent but they are still rare enough to class them as significant news.

There was also the fresh England/Russia stadium violence story not to mention endless Brexit stuff from that morning's political shows.

I was referring to before the death toll was announced. Also there's no point 'rolling' with it from early on if there's no pictures or facts.

From what I read at the time the BBC and other outlets in more convenient time-zones beat most US broadcasters to the initial news of the shooting.

They're not that rare, in fact not even rare in Orlando, the news had only just finished reporting on the last Orlando shooting

Could they make that 'Poundland Group' text any smaller?

Not very smooth start to the 5 on BBC News, cut to Huw while Simon was still talking. They were waiting for a press conference in Wakefield, would have been better perhaps for Simon to talk up to the press conference and for Huw to take over after, or at least hand over more smoothly.

It's not however that little walk they do when the title sequence announces the studios is really clunky, as if they do it on cue. They should just walk to the desk whenever they are ready, and it would look more natural that way.
