Sophie Long was reporting on this story so may have been following the trial while not really appearing on screen much recently. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44238521

It's a nice idea but it cuts back to the studio too quickly which means the shot is only on screen for barely a second or so.

That sounds like a bored director mixing things up on a slow afternoon. See also:

BBC London often pick up network or news channel pieces and run them in the 1830 - even though those packages haven't been commissioned by them initially, was it one of those (they'll sometimes add a BBC London SoC if needed) or was it an original commission by BBC London?

Yeah, usually that's because the nationals have run the story for the first bit of the day and then it's been bumped out the running order by something else so offered to London.

It happens the other way round too, network have been known to see a story on the lunchtime London bulletin and ask to use it on the 6. Then London have to find something to replace it

Worth noting that BBC London have also used network presenting cover, especially during the Breakfast/lunch bulletin shift. Sarah Campbell has been a semi-regular.

A bit off topic but wasn't sure where else to put it. Just found the below clip online and I have to ask, did BBC News presenters regularly wear jumpers to present the news in the 1980s?

Watching this video... 0:40 in, Victoria demos the touchscreen interface - has this ever been used?

I don't watch the programme regularly, but when I do, the screen doesn't appear to be used 'OS' style.

I have seen the programme often, but at no point is the screen touched in the manner used in that video. It's literally just used as another location to display content from (like most of the other screens in the studio). Maybe it was planned to be a touch screen, just like OS, but it was felt to be gimmicky, or the studio layout didn't really make it possible for the screen to be touchable?
