I don’t know what’s up with these. I’d imagine using Viz Weather as it’s renderless would not give these errors. You don’t see them in the US with either WSI (now The Weather Company) Max ecosystem (which is on 24/7 as The Weather Channel’s workhorse) and Barron’s Lynx system. All are renderless and their playlists/shows can easily be changed.
I’m assuming the content/graphics in these shows are pre produced and rendered ahead of the “show” as the meteorologist talks and advances it. I imagine that’s why there are things such as editing playlist or loading appear on screen.
Where as the software I mention allow the meteorologist to prepare a show up to they go on air. They don’t have to worry about graphics loading because it’s rendered and updated in real time. For example during some shows the current temperature changes on the map, rain totals, where a fast moving storm is on the radar etc as the meteorologist may be on air.
Are the people who run the BBC News Channel struggling to find presenters or something? For the last several weeks, most of the presenters on anything other than Afternoon Live (which has been fairly consistently presented by Simon) have been:
* Freelancers
* People who often present the weekend bulletins
* Random people who've never presented before (eg Eleanor Garnier)
For example, people like Carole Walker, Rachel Schofield, Lukwesa Burak and a whole host of others have been presenting the news channel, but those like Carrie Gracie, Joanna Gosling and various others who normally present the weekday bulletins are nowhere to be seen. Is it some sort of internal push to have randoms (so no fixed schedule), or are loads just on lengthy breaks due to the time of year (therefore, cover staff)?

I imagine it’s a combination of factors, including the recent local election coverage, the upcoming Royal Wedding coverage plans, and possibly illness and pre-booked holidays. There may be other coverage plans for later in the year, that also influence who is available now.

That seems pretty logical. I’m actually in support for a less consistent rota of people presenting the channel (for one, it gives others a chance to present and allows for people from World News to occasionally step up to the plate), it just seemed weird how it’s been like this for many months in a row.
I’d like to see more World News presenters on the domestic channel during the day. Seeing familiar faces is nice and all, but the BBC surely consists of more than just the same 10-15 people presenting it every single day! People like Ros Atkins, who hardly appear on their flagship programmes (like OS), are wasted talent that could easily be used on news channel output for normal bulletins (imo)

Isn't it offen how they're contracted etc. I.e. some are contracted for World News and not the News channel (or vice versa).

World News also operates more commercially so for them consistency may be more important than the UK.

I have seen some former News Channel presenters (normally now contracted for World News) presenting on the UK News Channel in the last year (Kasia, for example, presented some evening shifts for News Channel: there are probably others I don't remember off hand). I assumed they just floated in between both, with preference given to a specific channel.
