Really? I'm sure I've seen clips of Riz Lateef on a catwalk in D.

How are they coping with only half a newsroom from a newsgathering perspective? Have people been moved out to Millbank or is there reduced staffing over a Bank Holiday weekend so they can squeeze in?

I imagine there’s reduced staffing and some of the specialized units (business for example) would be empty during the weekend that people could be moved to. From some pictures it only looked like the side desks (not directly behind studio E) were covered:

Most of the specialist units will be running on skeleton staff, if any are in at all, because Bank Holidays are a bit like weekends. People will be on call at home, and the news channel will be running with more back half-hours and/or pre-shot packages than usual.

Additionally it looks like the main hub or I guess assignment editors in a “circle” in the middle weren’t moved. Some of the workstations covered up look like a generic desk setup and could be moved anywhere.

Now can the LED hoop be moved up and down? Say if they ever wanted to replace the panels with higher resolution ones without the need for scaffolding.

Photos from it's installation show it being lifted by motors and then secured to the ceiling. In the UK if it was movable it would fall under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations, meaning it would need to be dropped at least every six months for the entire assembly to be inspected, including the points in the roof. Probably not something they would want going on in the newsroom!

Besides, if you changed the screen itself, it would probably require a different method of attachment to the hoop, and you'd want to remove the diffusion they currently have on it (that's what reduces the resolution so much currently).

The prerecorded wide shot on the BBC1 bulletins today was the same as you could see the same person in a salmon-coloured top standing up. Presumably this was also the case for all NC TOTHs?

I'm surprised they didn't use the 'visuals out of step with the music' titles they use if they are on an outside broadcast

Yes its the same prerecorded shot all across bulletins and the NC. You can also tell its the same as Kate Silverton is sat in the same position in the newsroom each time.

And Simon McCoy's been stuck at the desk in the studio. Very Happy

I wonder why the NC won't be simulcasting BBC Business Live at 8:30AM during Easter holidays, the programme has to go on air on WN anyways... Perhaps the people at the BBC thinks that the UK audience won't be interested in business news during bank holidays?

News Channel doesn't have a business presenter on Bank Holidays?
