Amazing how the current graphics still look brilliant after 5 years yet the set that came before (in 2008) looked outdated on the first day.

We've basically had the same title look for almost 10 years now. The only thing that really changed in 2013 was the lower thirds, and that was it. Graphically, I feel like we've had the same basic look for almost 10 years, with the most minor of refreshes 5 years ago, which really wasn't that much of a refresh.

To my eyes, the whole thing looks positively stale, and yet in that time ITV News has refreshed twice, and probably needs a refresh soon, though I would say, not a major change required there. BBC News on the other hand, looks so stale, that it needs a major change of look.

Titles maybe stale, the studio design is fantastic though, all the main news studios in broadcasting house look fantastic although I must be the only person that gets excited when I see studio e lit up differently from the usual Red and White.

The main studio indeed does look the most dated of the lot - never been a fan of the three screens on the walkway - looks awful compared to some of the newswalls we've seen elsewhere. For all it's faults I think Victoria Derbyshire look great and modern - both the studio and the amended graphics.

The simple option would be to directly replace it with a high resolution curved video wall in its place. If they want to break it up they can have virtual frames.

Sometimes it’s difficult to edit long posts on my iPad (either in Safari or Chrome).

Im thinking of something like curved the newly installed video wall in the Today Show studio (but not quite as a drastic curve); the ones installed in MSNBC’s studio 3A and 4E; and Nightly News’ 3C. The latter two studios 4E and 3C they shoot pretty close to the wall. I don’t imagine there would be issues with seeing individual pixels.

NC and WN have just gone into breaking news mode, where they started simulcasting in studio B with Stephen Sackur at 1200PM and dropped regular programmings. Annita Mcveigh joined Stephen at 1230.

For about 10 minutes time the NC had some technical hiccups where its ticker and and strap was disabled, while WN remains normal. Probably something is wrong with the NC playout in studio B.

The simulcast started at 12 not 11. The 11 hour was as normal from E with Annita on the news channel. Simulcast continuing at 13:00 with Annita and Karin.

Woops! Just edited and corrected the time.

BBC News and CBS News has just opened a joint bureau in Johannesburg. The ties of the newsgather operations get closer and closer. Today during the France Supermarket attack CBSN carried rolling coverage from BBC WORLD.

VTM Nieuws in Belgium have a really nice set that is similar to what you describe. There are three video walls: one behind the presenter, which is made up of three Barco screens, and two walls either side of the presenter, each made up of two screens. The video walls are separated by one way glass, showing reflections of the presenter: this gives it a rather unusual look, but I think that with the lighting they use, it actually works.

The studio and accompanying look were introduced in 2013, about a month before the BBC moved into their current digs; that being said, it still looks fresh, IMO. In fact, several broadcasters in other countries have, erm, "taken inspiration", shall we say, from this look.

EDIT: Rumour has it that VTM are working on a brand new design, to be premiered in the autumn.

I reckon the BBC would do well to take a leaf out of VTM's book (but maybe not quite as obviously as the broadcasters in the clip above!).

Is it just me, or is Lucy Martin being framed closer to the camera than usual during the weather today?

I think you're right - Philip Avery is on right after her and it's back to normal. I hope it isn't to hide her disability as it seems to be conveniently framed just out of shot, which isn't normally the case.
