If they were going to go more casual, dropping the jacket is more likely to be accepted than dropping the tie.
That bloke who does Breakfast Look North from Newcastle doesn't wear a jacket, and there would probably be outrage in the north east press if he suddenly did start wearing a jacket.

Ros Atkins and Aaron Hestlehurst have both stopped wearing ties with no real criticism, and I think Newsnight now regularly features tieless male presenters without much comment.

I’m more for the tieless with jacket variety - I believe it still conveys authority. I just find tie minus jacket looks odd.
One thing about Ros is that he may need to vary his shirts. He frequently wears a black shirt (probably a T shirt type of material) with a dark blue jacket. It doesn’t look that good on him (or probably others) and the colors seem to flash. Still think a button down with jacket looks better.
I think the Victoria Derbystyle wardrobe of the male presenters wearing tight polo style shirts is a bit to casual unless it’s maybe a weekend morning show.

Does this release of doccuments really require a special programme? Especially as it seems just to be reporting the same as panorama on BBC1
Looks like one of those occasions that you get on the BBC News from time to time, where they've got a special report or a special week of broadcasts lined up and they are going to ruddy well run them at the top for 10 minutes, regardless of what else is actually in the news that day.
