Is Simon McCoy permanently in the afternoon slot?

Yes, he has been since Victoria Derbyshire took over the morning slot in early 2015.

It was on rotation with Ben Brown until it became single headed.

It really was not. Ben was probably the most common relief presenter but Simon was by far the most common presenter in that slot.

Do the BBC1 News team not communicate with the Sport team at all?
Straight after the early evening news which ended with a report on todays premier league scores came the sport which started with a run through of the premier league scores.

No problem with that, Early Evening News is primarily aimed at BBC ONE viewers. BBC NEWS viewers get recaps all day. It'd be mighty strange for a BBC NEWS Channel Sport roundup from Mid August till May, on a Saturday not to start with the FAPL events of the day too.

I did wonder if they'd get Riz to do this feature from D (BBC London studio) or from E.

Well they took a form one of my ideas when the new Oneness idents premiered. Obviously this one was much quicker but it followed the same premise.

Two Ideas:

1) Showing the producers on the desks in view of the studio working maybe over exaggerated collaboration (people looking at one persons computer or maybe passing papers) with Studio E in view. I'd have presenters not easily identifiable so it could be used with any bulletin.

2) Maybe Studio E going live for the first time in the day - shot from the corner of the studio. Start with lights flickering on in stages (maybe the catwalk first and then the rest), then the monitors in sequence showing color bars , the light boxes changing colors, the cameras in stored position (maybe closest to the walkway to the desk) moving towards their typical shots / rising up and finally the logos and standard footage on the monitors.
