In fairness, the news of that story broke much earlier - Sky had it at 10.26pm and the BBC broadcast the official announcement from Kezia 10 minutes later. If anything, the BBC News Channel should have had it covered before their Newsnight repeat (which would also have had the story).

I say this as a Scot, but the resignation of Kezia Dugdale in the grand scheme of the stories going on around the world right now is a very small story. It has bigger implications, in terms of the NEC of the party and the continued direction left, but they can be explained tomorrow.

Has anyone noticed that on BBC News Channel the quality of the tv screen to the right of the presenter. The middle looks like there is massive screen burn but definitely faulty, its been like it for some weeks. Most noticeable with white images or lighter colours

Either they haven't noticed it, or maybe they are leaving it for now pending some tweaks what with new weather and font going on.

Or budgetary approval to repair / replace.

I remember in N9, BBC World went for a long time not bothering to fix the screen with the BBC News logo massively screenburned whenever they did an interview it was obvious.

Worthwhile noting that the 'Late News' for network is a matinee on Saturday, Usually scheduled between the Last Night of the Proms and Match of the Day, for some unexplicable reason this year it's at 2040, before the LNotP. Can't recall such an early 'late' for many years, if not ever, excluding Christmas.

How to ruin a serious programme by sticking an inappropriate exclamation mark in the title:

The story itself is so astonishing so worthy of the exclamation mark. If anything it deserves more as its John Le Carre in nature.

That's the point though, it's not a John Le Carre story, it's real life.

Looks like this is an English language version of the BBC Arabic documentary; it's on World this weekend.

The Andrew Marr show seems to have a different backdrop for the news (for the few occasions a year it comes from London) than previously. Today it was clearly from studio B but the backdrop was as we would see in studio E. Previously I thought they'd used a rather generic backdrop similar to that used when Salford provide the bulletin.
