Mistakes happen but as long as we don't get to banal and surreal levels of headlines on news channel tickers such as "Typhoon rips through cemetery; hundreds dead", "Stolen painting found by tree" and, my personal favourite, "Panda Mating Fails; Veterinarian Takes over"...

A very rare glimpse here of the rehearsals for the One O'Clock News with Anna Ford back in 2004:

How times have changed. They certainly don't rehearse like that for the One o'clock News anymore!

We see Frank Gardner in this, it's from exactly 1 month before he and his cameraman were shot at in Saudi Arabia.

I miss the days when the BBC's TOTH headlines used to be this concise and punchy.

It's become quite ridiculous the length of the headline sequence, particularly when they use lots of sync that's repeated just 2 minutes later. The punchy sequence was far better.

Indeed. The headline sequence from the clip above in 2004, including the regional insert, was 40 seconds. The headline sequence from today's News at One, in 2017, was 1 minute 15 seconds. Almost twice as long.

There is a big shiny white glare coming from the screens in E during The Papers on the NC. It is safe to say that they are faulty.

There was also a mess up during the 22:30 Sportday where an earlier take of some presentation from the touch screen was used with the presenter nearly dropping the S bomb.

It looked to me like the screens had gone from the right side of the studio. Might be just me.

Newsday once again showing it is totally unsuitable for the News Channel with the breaking news of Kezia Dugdale's resignation not even being mentioned.
