Be interesting to see whether Sophie Raworth does it next time she presents the One.

She has done the NC before, about 10 years ago did a few Monday afternoons with Jon Sopel after doing the One

I seem to remember that was during a period where they wanted more high profile presenters anchoring BBC News 24 during peak times. I know Sophie Raworth, Kate Silverton, Mishal Hussain and Huw Edwards fronted shifts on the News channel but I don't think George Alagiah and Fiona Bruce ever have.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the special closing titles and music on the BBC News at 10 last night. They showed images of the solar eclipse with a variation of the closing theme I hadn't heard before. Any capture?

They made use of a stripped back version of the Olympic Mix, first heard at the end of London 2012.

Yes I preferred the version used on Monday though. Wish they did this type of closing more often.
I wonder why they chose to do a special closing for this story... whereas a bigger news story (eg. Grenfell Tower, Manchester bombing), didn't get a somber closing?

Someone needs to sort the ticker out. It's got (among others) the following "headlines" in succession:

"A man has been shot dead after attacking two soldiers with a machete in the centre of Brussels" - fair enough, nice self contained headline, does the job
"Two officers were hurt while arresting a man with a large knife outside the royal grounds" - this appears to be a reference to the incident outside Buckingham Palace, but reads like a line from the middle of the story, as it doesn't give context to "royal grounds" by itself, and could be read as being a follow-up to the previous headline
"The sight, off the coast of Florida's Anna Maria Island, was filmed on Thursday" - what?
"Its foreign minister also accuses the US of "fake news in exaggerating its economic crisis" - ???
"A leaked report finds "inappropriate action" was experienced by many of its clients" - whose clients?

After a few more normal headlines, we get:

"The Sheraton Cadwell orchestras [sic] asked women to wear dresses that hide their 'dietary indulgences' " - lacks context
"The 46-year-old had been in a medically induced coma since 10 August after collapsing at home" - has someone diead?

'Boy trips over one million year old fossil' was doing the rounds the other month. Very Happy

Of course it isn't as bad as people laying 'reefs' by the Cenotaph. Laughing

In case anyone missed it apparently BBC Four is also RTS News channel of the year.
All this week on World News Today instead of the BBC World News dog and ticker or the more recent thing of the BBC One lower third straps WNT ran with the News Channel dog, clock and ticker including a load of headlines not mentioned in the programme, the news channel email address and the RTS credit

When the channel was BBC News 24, George did a reasonable stint co-presenting the 1200-1600 slot, as did Huw Edwards. This was prior to both of them being main BBC One presenters though.

I've seen it where the National bulletin was at :35 so they just delayed the weather by a few minutes and had a slightly extended break to lead into the bulletin on the weekend. I think the problem with a bulletin at :05 is that the back half hour is recorded content on the weekends most of the time so it's hard to pad the hour out but it's still possible to just have the National presenter do a quick summary of some of the smaller stories and have the big ones in the summary going out on BBC One. The intro would be like the short World News bulletins which go out overnight on the News Channel.

I noticed yesterday evening when the BBC One news was at :05, whilst they still did a full TOTH on the news channel, after the titles a different VT was introduced on something other than the top story, meaning at least they didn't air the top story package twice within ten minutes as per usual, which is something at least!

I'm still not sure why they bother showing the ticker when it's just showing incomprehensible headlines like this. Why not just take it off? The channel didn't have a permanent ticker for years after it launched.
